I knew about numbers and ages, but learnt "Hatachi" today. Thanks Sayaka-sensei.

The other reading for 9 is ”く” but don't use that to count age... "くさい” means "smelly" 🤫

She literally clears the doubts I have after duolingo lessons.
Thank you for your contents.

This is one of those kinds of language rules where it really feels like it’s just there to mess with people learning the language

I really like the snapping thing to pronounce each syllable.

Because, in Japan, adults were defined being twenty years old on the domestic law, Japanese named it specially "Hatachi".

if anyone's wondering why it's issai and hassai, it's from a process called 促音便 (sokuonbin), it's one of the 3 main sound changes in Japanese with the others being 連濁 (rendaku), and 半濁音化 (handakuonka); 促音便 is pretty easy to learn and shows up all the time so you should probably learn it early or it's just gonna cause headache later on

I'm convinced that Japanese have grudge against the number 20 judging by hatachi (20 in age) and hatsuka (20 in date)
