ABOUT THIS VIDEO
I discovered 3 Slippery Slopes that would tip my brain into helplessly craving junk food and sweets. So I took these 3 points and flipped them into Clarity Guardrails, which over time became stronger and stronger to the point that my brain hardly ever craves junk food and sweets now.

1. Hunger. Drink more water instead of soda. Eat palm-sized protein.
2. Habit. Permission to eat after speedbump: drinking water after every bite, making first plate a small salad before every meal, jotting down my thoughts before eating.
3. Observe yourself.

I started writing down what I ate in the day. No restrictions or calorie counting. And then putting "energy" or "pleasure" next to it. Visually seeing what I've eaten has helped me make better decisions in my eating. I can enjoy "junk" but it's in smaller quantities. This is the first time in many years that my good habits have stuck. Thanks so much for your videos. It is really helping me see the big picture instead of being frustrated so easily.

Eating more protein really helped with my appetite.

The third guardrail was too real for me. Pleasure - release - celebration sounded exactly like my approach to food. I also related to when Richa said that she'd eat the food served to her even if it wasn't as good--- I don't know if this is because we come from like-minded Asian cultures where food takes on a more socioeconomic value. But thank you for acknowledging those situations. I feel seen and less alone in my struggle with food.

1. Drink more water
2. Substitute carbs with protein
3. Make it difficult to access the junk hood
4. Disassociate food from celebration and associate with pain

As a picky eater who has a fiancé who is even more picky, changing my relationship with food has been much more of a challenge but what you said about changing the mindset of how this food serves me, that’s really helped me!

I am doing pretty well with cravings because I have stopped demonizing foods. The hardest challenges for me are the breakroom at work and I needed to plan for acknowledging and managing the treats there which have different pulls upon me depending on susceptibility. If I am bored or struggling, their siren sound is louder. So I have learned to keep alternative foodstuffs in my drawer and to have a cup of coffee instead that I can sip for hours. If I do have a breakroom treat, I often cut it in half because it is sometimes just the first bite that satisfies and I am not obligated to finish the entire donut or cookie. That said, I am in a period of new self-observation because I am at a plateau. I need to form a fresh goal or strategy since the plateau is acting like maintenance. I have not ceased to track my intake and comply with my modest calorie deficit but, treating this neutrally like data and not responding with frustration, I can see there is a next step and I am working out what that is for me.

A friendly reminder for those that have adhd, we naturally crave more high sugar foods as well as carbohydrates due to our brains needing more of the energy they provide our brains with.

So be mindful that your "cravings" aren't always just boredom or emotional eating. It is your brain telling you, you need more energy throughout the day.

Especially as us adhders do and oftenly can easily go through many hours/ all day without eating or drinking anything or both or very little, if we do "remember", for long enough to actually stop what we are doing and go eat + make a drink".

Because annoyingly we really struggle with what should be basic automatic habitual routine/ carrying out completing tasks and reminding/remembering to do them a million times.

Only getting two choices in my case and having to pick and choose which to do first based on how important it is and how long I've been leaving it.

We have to actively and constantly think about doing everything that is a habit or mandatorily good for us and our health in all areas but especially when it comes to personal hygiene and getting enough fluids and food.

I've subscribed. She's giving actually healthy advice I was wary because I am tired of people with relatively slim bodies being the face of weightloss when they aren't dealing with different genetics but this and the video on metabolism as well as that on being body positive while losing weight helped

Ok so.... Drink water, have lots of protein, less restriction, buffer when you eat (do something before you decide you actually need food), and observe yourself. Ask yourself how you want the food to serve you with what you want to eat.

Great video! It was also through observing myself and my viewpoints that I started to have a relationship with food that aligned with my goals. Thank you for sharing, it's amazing to see how others are also coming into these thoughts. Initially it seemed like fuzzy logic but, suprisingly, it's having results -- and those results are not painfully acheieved.

Hey Richa! Thank you for this channel! I am struggling to get fit from 18 y.o. All that time I had periods when I was almost perfect and periods when I was a complete disaster. I learnt English and started to watch all fitness related channels on youtube. I felt that I am very experienced in dieting and can't learn anything new but at the same time idea of counting calories wasn't acceptable for me at all. I had strong believes that counting calories doesn't work and you really must focus on sport and eating only healthy food. Well, sometimes it works, but very slowly and any crisis causes regaining weight back immediately. The thing that really helped me is that I found so many fitness professionals on youtube without BS that said that only counting calories works and everything else doesn't. It one moment constant repeating calories in calories out mantra broke me and I surrendered and accepted the idea. I wanna say that repeating the right ideas in each video isn't pointless. It really helps, so please do not stop and share your and your clients experience with us repeating simple ideas that really works: calories counting and walking (with good quality of sleep).
