This guys app is legit. I have never spoken Spanish in my life but run a kitchen. So I could understand it a little bit. I bought it Friday and today I had a conversation on the phone in Spanish. It only took 5 days. I have been on it over five hours a day. Do something to better yourself during the quarantine

Whenever someone Hispanic would tell me they understand Spanish but can’t speak it, I could never comprehend what they meant. It sounded crazy to me but now that I am learning Spanish and having more time spent listening than actually speaking, I can say it is definitely a real thing lol

This makes a lot of sense. I I've been able to understand ~80% of conversations I hear in Spanish for a long while, but can't speak it to save my life. A lot of what you're saying makes sense when you think about how some people who are dropped in a country learn the language naturally.

Good to know I'm not the only one who has this problem! I'm Cuban & my abuela raised me but she always spoke to me in Spanish & I'd respond in English all throughout my childhood. I think that's a large part of why my Spanish how it is. The explanation in this video was so helpful, being comfortable & putting yourself in situations is so important to learn!

I was stuck being able to read and understand perfectly but not able to speak. I moved to the DR for 2 years and it all started to come out. I can say that the best way to learn was to be put in situations where English is not even an option. Plus, learning through associations is much better. You can start to visualize what people are saying instead of translating in the head.

that confidence thing is so true i realized my spanish is so much better when im with my family/friends or with people that dont speak spanish bc i feel confident i wont feel judged vs other hispanics from other countries. i get nervous and fuck up. and i think its bc the childhood trauma of "not talking right" and being the only dominican in a VERY mexican area.

Whoa!! This was one of the best advice videos I've seen in quite some time. 👍🏽

I have a decent grasp of Spanish, but still struggle sometimes when expressing myself under pressure. I've experienced exactly what you've explained, and I believe this is true for most people regardless of which langue is being used. Personally, I can express myself in a very fluid and native manner in conversations with friends, but seem to loose "fluency" in formal pressured enviornments where more emphasis is placed on "speaking perfect".

In the end, it all comes down to confidence. The more of it you have, the more comfortable and fluid you will be, which in turn gives you more confidence. Its a circular process.

An additional peice of advice I would give to those who want to gain confidence/fluidity is to always stay positive. Keep positive thoughts in your mind, and only look at obstacles as learning opportunities in place of failure.

Speed! It’s speed for me. I understood every single word you said at 3:46 but because of how clear and slowly you spoke. 😢 It sucks having to ask people to repeat themselves and it’s still hard to catch each word.

Bro this is me! I started listening to Spanish a lot more to now I read, write, and hear better than I speak and depend on the subject I’m fluent others not so much. Native speakers can’t understand the disconnect to help me out. I’m just not comfortable in some conversation. I know what to say but I struggle.

I'm at C1 and still struggle sometimes to express myself as well as I do in English.
Speaking indeed requires deliberate practice.

This is helpful! I was trying to help a customer today, and I was so tired and struggling to speak with her in Spanish. (TBH I was struggling to speak my native language of English). I have been getting frustrated because I know I can speak Spanish, but I cant choose the words that come out of my mouth. 😂

I understand 80% of Spanish language but to put words together I feel like I'm stupid to speak. My English brain is always overwhelmed by trying to find word in Spanish

This is perfect for me. I work in a place where there’s tons of Spanish going around but me who has a Hispanic last name, it’s hard for me to speak it. I’ve told others that I understand the words but I can’t speak it.

I don't fear the consequences of getting wrong anymore, several years ago I said no thank you to a taxi driver, that we wanted to go slowly and look in all the shops. His face was like 'what's wrong with you', few metres later saw a sign 'Tiendas'.... I had said 'servicios' 🙄🤣
