I show how to read the scale on an analog multimeter.
You use the same scale for direct or alternating current.
Use the scale that is just over the amount you are reading for.

I am an English course lecturer, teaching in Electrical Engineering classes, well I was asked to teach my students how to read multimeter in English. It is funny coz I never ever touched or even read a multimeter, how am I supposed to teach them 😅 so here I am, trying to find any easy explanation. I still couldn't comprehend what you are talking about hahaha need to learn this ac-dc thing first I believe.

Mulitmeters are new to many of us. Please ensure that you take the time to show WHERE ON THE DIAL you are turning to and POINT to it the camera for several seconds. Otherwise I like how you cut to the chase on the subject.

Something else that would like to add is that I have been using this thing this whole time and it took me being 10 chapters in to learn how to use it. That's quality( or redundant) edumacation for you 👍

When testing a water heater element use the ohm scale set at 200. A 4, 500 watt element should read @ 13 when new

This is a very good basic introduction. I have only a small critique, you mentioned testing for Current, but it's Voltage you were testing.

Higher end meters, usually digital these days, have a separate function for Current (Amps). Other than that, pretty good video!

It's good that newer analog multimeters are safer these days due to fuse protection.

Older ones had no fuse protection. They could be dangerous when set to the wrong setting, or when used on a faulty circuit.

Anyone looking for recommendations; Southwire, Woods, and Kobalt (Lowes brand) share a similar, if not internally identical, generic analog multimeter design.

They are fuse and diode protected, abundant, and usually come with a warranty. But do keep your receipt. The Kobalt brand one that I bought has a manufacturer three year warranty with receipt.

Can you show us how to take the readings of meters having first division lesser than the others and label with a '.' and why?

I liked the white board drawing to expand the microscopic meter font, but I'm a big time novice and needed to see all the readings and settings on the meter, but the camera work missed a lot of them. Also, based on the description, my meter doesn't have a "150" setting. This man obviously knows quite a bit about about this subject matter, so much so that he likely takes it for granted and forgets when he was and idiot about this stuff like me. This video is probably useful for some, but I need it dumbed it down a bit.

Ok but when do we set it to 3 or 1? Can sb tell me please? Ant why when i messure 1, 5V batery on multimetr set to 3 it goes extremely high, but not to the half, but when it is set to 10 it shows right voltage?

Hello sir, I have same meter as you, and want to check thermo fuses on my electric dryer..I set ohm to X10 and all thermo switches sent meter all far right.(off chart far as would go).Each one I removed 1 wire and checked them still in position..Does this mean all sensors I checked are good? (thanks)I used digital meter before, but this one is different..Thanks, Tim
