Night leg cramps have got to be one of the most annoying ailments to have. I've heard many patient stories over the years about waking up in the middle of the night due to leg cramps. They don't just complain about the pain but more importantly, how theses interruptions affect their waking lives as well since they are unable to get the sleep they need.

[UPDATE] Dr. Lawrence Woods here! I want to express my sincere appreciation for your support and for finding value in my suggestions for natural approaches to address restless leg syndrome over the years.

As a chiropractor, my mission has always been to offer people holistic solutions that aim to enhance their well-being. In line with this goal, I'm excited to introduce the Axial Ergonomic Seat Cushion – an innovative product designed to help you sit more comfortably, which might be beneficial for those experiencing restless leg discomfort at night.

The Axial Ergonomic Seat Cushion is a result of extensive research and expertise in ergonomics, spinal health, and human biomechanics. Its distinctive design encourages proper pelvic positioning and spine alignment, which can potentially contribute to a more comfortable sitting experience.

The Axial Ergonomic Seat Cushion is not only intended for individuals coping with restless leg syndrome, but also for anyone seeking improved posture, reduced lower back discomfort, or simply a more enjoyable sitting experience.

Integrating the Axial Ergonomic Seat Cushion into your daily routine might provide additional comfort that could positively impact your sleep and overall well-being. As always, I encourage you to combine this with the natural approaches and exercises discussed in the video for the best possible outcome.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support, and I'm confident that, together, we can help you discover comfort and enjoy a happier, healthier life.

I am 70 and have had leg cramps all my life, even as a child. I have had some relief from magnesium and from iodine, but never totally got rid of them, especially when eating any sugar. I have recently been taking glycine and have not had a cramp anywhere since, even when eating sweets. I have never gone over two days without a cramp, but it has been 3 weeks since I discovered glycine and no cramps.

Muscle cramps are really hard to figure out what causes or triggers them. Dehydration is a major factor for me. Plus I have seen a relationship to having sugary foods before bed. I usually don't have sugar/carbs but when having dinner out ending with cake and ice cream almost always triggers leg cramps that night. I take magnesium malate every morning and then will take a smaller dose of a different form of magnesium before bed if I think I might have a leg cramp. That has changed things for me. Thanks for the information.

As a teenager I sometimes would get alternating leg cramps at night. Next day in school, I would hardly be able to walk. My P-E teacher never really believed me. But those next day after effects were painful. My main method to fix my cramps was massaging and beating them out. That takes time, which is why I had so much pain the next day.
My preferred method these days is stretching. Grab your toes, pull towards you and straighten your leg. You force the cramps to stop.
Sometimes when my wife gets cramps at night, I hardly wake up, just grab her foot and straighten her leg. Takes seconds, and I’m back to sleep.

I use dill pickle juice or green olive juice... when you are in the middle of a leg cramp the juice will relieve it almost immediately... I now put electrolyte drops in my water each time I fill my thermos...The electrolyte drops prevent the muscle cramps...

After a lifetime of severe cramping I was prescribed Clonazapam 2mg before bedtime along with gabapentin 300 mg. Both have helped decrease cramps from 3 -4 nights weekly of painful cramping to maybe once or twice a month. My cramps have caused me to black out from the pain so it can be very serious and cause lots of other problems. One of my blackouts caused 3 broken ribs.

If I drink plenty of water prior to bed, I get up to release my bladder 6 times at night and this also spoils my sleep apart from the night cramps.

Update. (You can read my original post below.) Neither pickle juice nor apple cider vinegar had an affect -- other than messing up my digestive system. Maybe vinegar helps people whose cramps have a different origin. My cramps happen at night. They're less likely to happen on days when I exercise. Stretching before bed helps. I suspect it has something to do with nerve impingement in my lower back.

Here's what I wrote previously:
Pickle juice! From what I've read, it's the vinegar in the pickle juice that makes it work. Why vinegar? The acetic acid in the vinegar has an immediate affect on the part of the brain that causes cramps -- cramps being neurological in origin. So I'm keeping a bottle of apple cider vinegar next to my bed. I'll post an update next time I get a cramp.

I'm a roofer, with drop foot, I'm always upright and on pitch...lumbar issues triggered the foot drop...double sciatica healed by core strength...I think the quinine tonic water has been the only help...also, a full bladder is a trigger, if I dont piss before bed and fall asleep I will wake up in cramp...I need some yoga, hamstrings are always tight since childhood.

I would not go to bed without pickle juice in my fridge. I have terrible leg cramps at night. I dtink about a quarter cup of pj and in about ten minutes the cramps begin to get better. It definitely works. Been doing it for years.

what worked for me was just diluting rice vinegar… half teaspoon or less of rice vinegar for 300ml to 350ml of Luke warm water 1 hour before bedtime… do not drink cold water especially before bedtime… and it works for me…. no more leg cramps at night, muscle twitching, and I get a better sleep… but the key to it for me was to not take any carbs… eat healthy foods in the daytime to prepare for nighttime and i went back to around 30 minutes of walk and stretching legs, thigh, arms, and hips in the morning right after i wake up, afternoon, and at night 30 minutes after lunch and dinner… it’s all about preparation for a good night sleep without leg cramps and muscle twitching all over my body… I’m going to try also Apple cider vinegar with the same diluted ratio… just so I can alternate between the rice vinegar… and will try other more vinegars just so I can get it anywhere especially away from home or travelling…
