Nail Techs Will NOT do this Nail Shape! Watch To See Why!

Save this for your people that want stilettos and almonds but no added length! 🙅‍♀️
This is why that length is needed! 👩‍🏫

But what do I do if I just can't grow nails longer than that? 😭

Find a nail tech who's skilled with builder gel or a polygel product like Matrix and they'll be able to add whatever length you need with a strong, durable product that will support your natural nail while it grows. 💪

I have natural "duck nails" (the longer they get, the wider they get), so I always try to file down the corners to avoid breakage. When I tell you that filing down _that close_ to your nail bed hurts _LIKE HELL_, trust me, you don't want short almond nails

The way I thought the first drawing was the short almond nail 😭

As a nail tech of well over a decade you wouldny believe the arguments ive had with customers over this. I fortunately have a very graphic photo of what happens when you try this (i didnt try it i had a traumatic nail injury and it ripped down the sides leaving one side looking like a short almond and left exposed nail bed and blood everywhere) and i now show it when theh argue and they suddenly seem to get it and understand its just not possible to do it

The problem is, my nail tech didn't refuse. First time I'd ever been to a nail salon and I got a set of pretty short almond acrylics almost 10 years ago and I've never gotten my nails done EVER again because so much of my nail was cut it hurt so bad, it wouldn't heal!! It looked so pretty but omg it hurt!! I'm so glad to hear people don't regularly do this because what I experienced was awful:')

It's not a question of skill, it's a matter of anatomy!

NGL, pentagon-shaped short nails sounds like an amazing idea. I'd be down for it.

The fact that you have had to explain this to people is insane. How have they even kept themselves alive at this point? 🤦🏼‍♀️

I love the pentagon shape!!! If you want short almond, go for the pentagon, so cute!!!!

If you file into hyponychium, you create instability in the nail, and it will break off at the widest point

There’s a girl that tries out vintage or old discontinued nail polish and she has that sort of triangle tip/pentagon nail shape on her somewhat short nails and the nails actually look really beautiful, but it’s definitely not the “classic” almond.

Thank god someone finally made an info graphic for this!!! 😂 I’m a nail tech and this kills me

Thank you! I can’t ever explain this to people but this was perfect

My tech does not refuse to give me a short almond nail. My last 4 or so sets were this shape. He’s amazing and I’ve been going to the same salon for over 10 years now. I specifically say “the shortest almond/stilletos you are comfortable with” and he delivered the exact length and shape I was picturing.

Why would anybody ask for something like this 😂😂 I thought the first doodle was the short almond

I love this shape! And I also think the initial “drawing” is what my mind thinks of when I picture “short almond shape”…because, honestly, it is!

Thank you for this because I’ve been wanting the pentagon for the longest time and now I can explain it with a visual to my nail tech

What I've done for customers is do a French tip in a light color like silver that makes the rest of the nail appear to form the almond shape, while keeping the natural width of the nail

That’s so interesting… I’m able to cut my nails into a short almond (like the stunted second illustration) without going into the nail bed.

Like it’s SHORT. With no pain.

I just narrow down both sides of the nail and just have a couple centimeters for the tip but it tapers like an almond shape, not the pentagon shape!

I have to let it grow out some more than in this video, but it’s doable if they’re coming to you with a smidge more nail to work with!

THANK YOU for saying this. I have had to explain this to so many clients 😭 This shape is not possible unless you have the length. I’m not hurting you to do this shape shorter.

Ohhh this is helpful! I've been doing my own nails for a while and have probably been filing down the sides a little too much because I've been wanting more of an almond shape. It seems like they need to be way longer for me to do with just my natural nail. Good to keep in mind for the future!
