1. Practice
2. You won’t please everyone
3. Pains (stretch, get massages, take vacations)
4. Invest on good products
5. Stay on top of trends

Just started learning and I see how important practicing is. This is WAY harder than it looks.

I’ve been a male nail tech for 6 years and a tip for the boys. Sometimes clients won’t trust men with their nails and you can’t let it bother you

This! School doesn't go into all of this. I wish instead of school one was trained in a salon, this would be the best way. I've been a tech for 14years now and I practice every single day, whether it's perfecting the new trend, free hand design or shaping different styles. I have seen so many people get their licenses and then quit and go into another career, because they couldn't take the demands of the job or couldn't take the criticism from some clients. You have to have good customer service, thick skin and a sense of understanding. In school they don't tell you any of this. Your pricing means everything and clients will try to lowball you or complain about a perfect set, just to get them cheaper. I'm so glad you touched on all of this.

posture is everything ! both feet on the floor ! back straight. have your client come to you, not you extend your arms to them

😭😭 you’re not gonna believe it but you made me tear up with #4. I’m a beginner and this helped me as a boost to invest in good products, I really want to do this I’ve been watching videos nonstop and working on building my collection. I have an almost 4 month old baby and I want to be able to work from home, thank you for your videos, I’ve learned so much ❤️✨

Girl preach! I remember back in the day when there were nail shops in the malls I worked at the Nailery - we didn’t even have efiles- all filing done by hand - acrylics were different took forever to sand down. I would be in so much pain! Ended up with carpel tunnel. The back pain is no joke either. ThankYou for bringing attention to this. 💜

Since covid things have been hard and my nail salon closed. Was looking for a video so I could learn how to do my nails myself, and came across yours. I must say, you are super talented and I love how transparent you are. Don't believe that I will ever become a nail tech, but at home manicures, I think I can master in a couple of years, lol. I'm definitely subscribing.

When she said practice is the number one necessity to be a nail tech I was relieved. She continued by saying that knowing the basics before you get started on customers is crucial and I thought to myself this is a legitimate Nail technician. I hate when salons put people that are still learning to do acrylic and or designs. I recently took my teenage daughter to a nail salon to get her nails done. Even though we made and appointment, she waited an hour before she was seen. Strike one. When it was 'our turn' the lady asked us (again!) if we made an appointment and what my daughter would like done. When we called to make the appointment, my daughter gave her name and spoke to someone detailing what she wanted. Strike two. When my daughter is done she comes over to me with a miserable look (my daughter is a hard working young lady who really wanted to have her nails done to look pretty) and I asked her what's wrong? She shows me her nails and they look awful. It wasn't the color my daughter wanted because the tech wouldn't do it. The area where you build up the nail to keep it from breaking was way too high (almost bubble like) and the gel finish looked gooey. She had already paid and there was another customer in the lady's chair so we couldn't even ask her to fix it, at least without waiting another long wait. Strike three. Unfortunately this has happened a few times between myself, my daughter and my sister. Why do shop owners do this? I have never gone back to the shops in my area because of this. (The one we went to recently had just opened near my daughter's part time job.)

Oh my god yesss! I been in the game 2 years and all the classes I took definitely did not prepare me for the arm and back pain 😭 I had one teacher told me to get strict on clients relaxing their hand because our hands are our money makers!

Practice is crucial, a definite must when doing nails especially when doing acrylic nails I can remember graduating Nail School with my Nail Technicians liscense and not knowing anything about how to do acrylic nails, they only teach you the basics of nail care, manis and pedis....I literally had to do and learn everything on my own from watching YouTube and Learning one on one from other Technicians.
