In Taylor’s version the voice is much more clear

First one has more atmosphere, and the second clarity

The newest version has her voice more prominent above the backing track, her vocals have also matured giving a better overall sound.

the new version feels more relaxed and normal while the old one is like a heart beating so fast

I prefer the first one. You can hear the desperation and frustration. I love the impression of a 'desperate but hopeless love' that it has. The second one spunds like she's reading through her diary entry about it years later when she has moved on already.

latest version is amazing too but the first one will always be my favorite. i love how it pulls you in, like you're this character that Taylor created and you're in love with your costar who has a significant other and isn't interested in you once the cameras are off...

I just wish she'd kept the reverb effect on the lead voice track :')

New one is clear and breathing.
But I love old one. It's anxious, chaotic and still soothing at the same time

In the 1st one,
1. The sub-bass is a lot wider
2. The mix on the vocal reverb is higher with a little bit longer tail (which makes the vocal feel like it is in a more emptier space)
3. The delay/echo is more prominent
4. The atmospheres have far more presence.
5. Drums have less body and the kick is lacking low end as compared to the 2nd version.
6. Orchestral elements are more pronounced and there is an absence of a guitar (I believe).
7. Tambourine is on the 3 of every bar.
8. Snare-like perc is on the 3 of every bar.

While in the 2nd one,
1. The sub-bass is mono
2. The reverb mix on the vocal is lower. Also the vocal seems to have a more high shelved eq shape; Has more air and provides more clarity.
3. Delay is very less prominent (but you can still hear it if you have trained ears),
4. A lot less atmospheres/, atmospheric pads.
5. Drums are more prominent with more body and low-end
6. Orchestral elements are a bit lower in volume while the presence of a guitar is noted.
7. Tambourine sound is different from 1st and is on the 3 of every other bar.
8. Snare-like perc is on the 3 of every other bar where the tambourine is not present.

I always liked the echo on "burning". I don't hear that in the new one:/

Her heart beat on the Taylor's version is more clear. And the voice clarity too.

The original version will always be my favorite, but I'm glad that Taylor owns her masterpiece now.

In the original one the voice is more echoed and quieter to blend very well with the melody and the heartbeat, while the Taylor's version one the melody was lower and the voice was much clearer. The original one gives me goosebumps while the Taylors version is satisfying 💖💖

Taylor’s version is the song, original is the fever dream version and I love it so much 😭

There's a comforting thing about hearing her old versions vs. the new ones... We know that the old ones were sung with her young voice and the rawness of her emotions, because she's going through all of it then.
But now, her matured voice sings it in a way that's she's just retelling a story about a phase in her life that she'd survived through. Kinda like an old person fondly reminiscing their life.

The slight echo and atmospheric feel of the first one makes it sound so magical, bittersweet, yet tragic and yearning for a love you know you cant have. Whereas the second one is clearer with bit more of a force yet graceful feel. I like the first version because of that echoy, atmospheric feel that makes you feel like you're witnessing their story there with them compared to listening to her talk about it.

I like the original because it sounds faded and echoey like a dream that leaves you as you wake up. It feels like a memory that is losing its details and at the end she just wants him to not forget her . it feels so whimsical and desperate in a love stricken way where as the newer version kinda goes against this with how crisp her voice is and her stronger conviction in what she says

Ah if we're being a bit more technical than feelings I noticed that in 2014 "burning" is sung in falsetto while in the new version its sung in chest
