Brother he literally explained it’s because history would view it as a brother killing a brother- if the avatar did something then history views it as true balance and there’s no chance of misinterpretation

It wasn't that Iroh wasn't strong enought (even tho Ozai may have the stonger bending) it was that Iroh was probably not mentally strong enought to kill his brother. He probably couldn't take the resposability

In that same sword scene, as soon as a SLIVER of the sun showed, Ozai generated a massive amount of lightning and shot it towards Zuko

Shockingly Iroh and Ozai didn’t interact with each other throughout 3 seasons

Not only did he explain exactly WHY it couldn’t be Iroh, Iroh did not break the bars with his bare hands. He knew the eclipse was coming so he got in shape, used his fire bending just before the eclipse to break out. Then no one had fire bending so it was all physical and he dominated the guards. Ozai sat down because he didn’t want to fight Zuko…he wanted to KILL Zuko. He couldn’t do it while Zuko was dual wielding. Instead he got his attention and waited until his fire bending was back and went for his death move, not realizing zuko had learned yo redirect.

Im sure he blasted the bars just before the eclipse began.

The creators confirmed that Ozai is the most powerful firebender in history to that point. Iroh can’t beat him, and Ozai knows about irons ability to deflect lightning but didn’t know zuko could do it

It could just be that Ozau's fire bending was next level. Maybe some of the things we saw him doing during the eclipse he could do to some degree already. Like flying, and shooting flames that cover 9 football fields.

That truly hurt when Mako passed away. His stand in has done a good job but I grew up seeing Mako in so many movies and TV shows.

You know the fire lord who the instant he can feel any of the sun shot to bolts of lightning towards zuko. You know that one where every other firebender has only shown being able to shoot one bolt of lightning.

Bro Ozai could literally quick-draw lightning with just a sliver of the sun. On top of that, Iroh specified that even if he could defeat Ozai, history wouldn't view it as anything good. Just a brother killing a brother in a power struggle for the throne.

I saw Ozai sitting down as more of a strategic move. He knew he would only need to stall for 8 minutes before the eclipse ended

I mean no duh a fire bender is not gonna mess with a guy with swords on the day of black sun when he has no way to defend himself. Not really fair to call him out on that lol

Realizing again how strong iroh is will always be an amazing feeling

How I see it Ozai actually respected Zuko the moment I hold ground and took his swords out to show that he meant it. This agressive tone is exactly what Ozai would want to see, He sat down to give his son a change at explaining himself, he didn't sat down out of weakness or because he was afraid. after the talk he wanted to kill him of course but that another thing

Ozai was a coward at heart but he was still strong enough to fight for his life if he need to.

"But Iroh so wise, funny and cool! That means he strongest!!!!"

To be fair: you can have stronger genetic fire bending skills than another person. Busting out of jail and taking down weaker guards does not compare him to his brother.

If Iroh never lost his son, Aang would've harder time to achieve peace between all nations.
