To be fair - Iroh was creating a concentrated fire blast to break walls. Ozai was doing a large fire blast to burn the world

I’ve never doubted that Uncle Iroh could beat Ozai and take the throne. He just never wanted to.

Iroh said he wasn't sure but I think Iroh could have done it. He just didn't want brother on brother violence

Okay, but people underestimate how powerful that fireball was . It destroyed the walls of ba sing se in one hit the wall had been standing for a 100 years

If they had fought, Ozai would've used Iroh's attempts to minimize collateral damage against him. Ozai is not someone you can hold back against. Even Aang figured this out once in the avatar state, and he only pulled his punch after Ozai was effectively defeated and well restrained.

it takes more energy to blow a hole in a 20-foot-thick wall then to burn trees down

The only chance iroh had was when he returned home after loosing his son.

To up hold his birthright. It’s hinted . Iroh was the azula in the relationship between ozai and iroh. Ozai Galway’s trying to catch up never meeting his father expectations.

But alas iroh with the loss of his son. Was broken. Did not feel the need to claim the throne. Rather than risking a civil war. Bowed his head. Allowing ozai to take the throne. This would also be the time he took to journey into the spirit works where he changed his outlook on both his life abd the war. In search of his son. Only to later relize that the spirit world is but another aspect of the afterlife abd his son is not in the spirit world.

Zuko said "Uncle you can beat him". Iroh said " history will write it as a brother killing a brother" . Iroh, Aang, Zuko and the entire team Avatar know that fighting Ozai was going to be a battle to death and Iroh never wanted to kill his brother .

I think we take for granted Iroh’s experience with the other nations.

Just like Zuko, he involves other bend into his fire style making it unique and harder to fight against.

Iroh, also, even in his prime was mostly a strategist

Iroh is like Jiraiya while Ozai was like Orochimaru.

To be honest we never saw Iroh use his powers to the full extent, he showed a great deal of restraint with his bending never using more than what is needed. If we are talking about Iroh's full no holds barred power ozai doesn't even rank in the same league as him.

Personally, I think iroh has the strength and could beat ozai, but his moral and brotherhood bond won't allow him to finish him.

I think the only thing other than the Avatar that could defeat Ozai was ruthless raw power. Aang was neither ruthless nor a killer, but being the Avatar he was stronger than any Bender could ever aspire to be, so that compensated for his good heart. Iroh, on the other hand, definitely had enough power to win had he fought with killer instincts, but his strength isn't enough to compensate for his goodness and unwillingness to kill his brother. If he showed any kind of mercy, and I believe he would, he wouldn't have a good way to avoid the consequences for that like Aang had, so he'd fail.

honestly the scarier part isnt just that ozai did it as fast, he did it with both hands at the same time

The fight would come down to whether or not iroh could bait out a lightning strike

The fire nation was a very militant state. It’s bold of Iroh fans to assume that he can even have a fair fight with Ozai in the first place.

Ozais fire struggling to break through aangs rock ball, irohs fireblast blasting through the unbreakable walls of ba sing se in one blast

I think it wasn't a matter of building power as much as iroh was condensing the power to be explosive over just hot

I think you brought up a good point in that their personalities are wildly different. Ozai is a power hungry, ‘win by any means necessary’ type of person. I think Ozai wouldn’t think twice about using underhanded tactics to win, similar to how when Azula was up against Aang, Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Iroh she surrendered and then stuck Iroh to create an opening to get away. On the other hand, Iroh is pretty much the opposite and we see an example of this in the Agni Kai against Zuko and Zhao. After Zuko defeats Zhao, Zhao tries to strike Zuko as he is walking away, Iroh stops the attach and then holds Zuko back when he tries to instigate it further, saying to him something along the lines of “don’t taint your victory” and also calls Zhao’s actions “disgraceful”. So I think that theres a good chance that Ozai would win in a fight against Iroh just because he would be willing to do anything necessary whether it would be deemed ‘fair’ or not.
