During his time in prison, Iroh fooled everyone by pretending to be broken.

Ozai wasn't fooling anyone by pretending to be strong.

Stubborn from the beginning of imprisonment to the very end. In contrast to Uncle Iroh who passed away a proud father, Ozai passed away a stubborn and broken man.

Ozai: *Dies*
Zuko - "...."
*Later Zuko is visiting Uncle Iroh's shop*
Zuko - "Father died today..."
Iroh - "Oh, that's very inconvienient....here nephew, have this churro. It's on the house."
Zuko - "My father died and all you're giving me is a free churro?"
Iroh - " Yes"
Zuko - "....thanks, uncle."

Love how Zuko literally had no fear of Ozai after the show.

Ozai: "Well...isn't it an honor to be visited by the Fire Lord?"

Zuko: "You should be honored the Avatar let you live."

Ozai: "All my money was in that mattress!"
Zuko: "Wha... Haven't you ever heard of a bank?"
Ozai: *dies of heart attack*

When you think about it, Aang taking away Ozai's bending was such a better punishment than killing him. A death it battle would have been too quick and easy for him, and could have turned him into a martyr for fire nation extremists. Leaving him to wallow in his cell without any of his precious power was a far more fitting punishment.

Zuko watching Ozai die was an end of an era.

Zuko: *ITS THE BEST DAY EVER*

I think the saddest thing about Ozai is that he’s a perfect example of people who can’t be saved from even themselves. Like Azula, his own daughter after him, he is in actuality and ultimately his own worst enemy. He doesn’t even realize it, though. Probably not even before he dies. Here’s hoping that Azula didn’t meet the same fate, though.

Aang took Ozai's bending.

Zuko took Ozai's throne.

Ursa took Ozai's pride.

That's actually a great ending for Ozai. It sounds like what would happen in the canon ATLA comics. I wonder about Azula.

I knew Ozai's gonna die in the old age due to him being old but the fact he died in front of his son whom he hated the most is just pathetically sad

Zuko wasn't Ozai's favorite, but he did succeed Ozai as Fire Lord in some ways.

I like how the comics exploited how hard the job of being Fire Lord was.

Zuko must've partied when Ozai died.

I kinda love that he muttered "but" three times in the row. He was actually taken back by his wife's words even if it was just for a second and then his pride and ego couldn't allow him to face the truth.

"The love you make equals the love you take."

In conclusion, he has no sense of love.

And it was at that moment that Zuko finally learned to respect his father, as Ozai tried to teach him.

Ozai's mental health deteriorate over time when he's defeated, all alone in prison and became a mockery after Zuko undo his father's sins as well as the Fire Nation's horrible reputation. That comic page must have taken place like at least a few years later when white hair has grown and the brain has taken too much from the isolation & depression, in the end, dead.
