I think the only reason Iroh wouldn't beat Ozai in a fight is due to having more restraint and compassion towards his brother. It's hard to win a fight you don't want to be a part of.

If you notice, Iroh carfully concentrated the fire in a ball like Ozai to maximize the effectiveness of the attack meaning in the attack Ozai's fireball would be more area of effect and technically weaker than Irohs, we never see a crator in the ground by Ozais attack meanhile Irohs fire cliped through a wall

I've never seen anyone stan Iroh for his bending ability, every "stan" I've seen for Iroh praises his morality and advice.

He may not be the strongest bender, but he *is* the strongest when it comes to character.

Would like to point out that Ozai is an amazing fire bender yet hampered by his focus on the single element.

Iroh understands learning to fight with other forms. It's like a brute who knows how to box vs a MMA fighter who knows how to analyze his opponent.

Also if Ozai shot lightning at Iroh a redirection would end the fight.

I think Iroh still has a good chance mostly because their power is comparable and Iroh is far more well balanced a fighter with even water bending styles for redirection, soon as lightning comes about Iroh would defo end his brother unlike Aang who didn’t make a kill shot

People forget Ozai got the job ONLY a after Iroh rejected it. Also Iroh’s lightning redirect is proof that he knew more moves than Ozai who was unable to redirect zukoh’s lighning. Rem he said he learned from other types of bending

Notice that the walls of Bah Sing Sei (forgive the horrendous spelling) were blown to bits by Iroh, also notice that Ozai and his fleet performed the same techique while being in relatively close proximity to the comet. Ozai doesn't beat Iroh period, whether it be age difference, comet or not. Iroh would mop the floor with Ozai he's just too decent and humble to do it. Also note that had it not been for his son's death he would've been the first Firebender in history to conquer Ba Sing Sei a feat not even the great Sozin could manage

not a fair comparison of destructive power. iroh wanted to break the wall not decimate everything, meanwhile ozai just wanted to burn as much as possible. i believe there is nothing which can definitively show who is stronger

Ozai has youth while Iroh has experience. If it became an endurance competition, Ozai. If it was strictly skills and ended quickly enough, Iroh.
