Can we please stop comparing Caitlin Clark, Pete Maravich and Men's and Women’s basketball?

Caitlin Clark is one of the most skilled basketball players in the world. But the media’s insistence on comparing Clark with Maravich has become nauseating. From a verticality to an athleticism to a style of play quotient: the men’s and women’s games are totally different. Let’s let each be great.

Someone charted Pete's shots that would have been three-pointers, and they said he would have had over 6, 000 points and would have averaged over 55 points per game.

Smaller ball 29.5 vs 28.5 makes it easier to fit thru the rim. Lighter weight allows weaker people to shoot farther 22 ozs vs 18 ozs that's 22% lighter. court size 12% shorter in length less time spent going up and down the court. shorter 3pt line 22ft vs 20.5ft 7% closer to the rim. Only a naive person would came she broke Pete Maravich record of 3 years. She played four years under different rules. Wonder how she would have done if a 15 year old boy had guarded her for the last four years.

Due to the size of their basketball, the women are effectively shooting at a larger goal as well. I am sick and tired of the Maravich comparisons too. And didn't the center from Baylor give the NBA a try? If I remember correctly, that didn't last long.

How she handles the ball is similar to how maravich did. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you

If by 'different' game you mean the men's game is superior to the women's then I agree. They do try and put this forward in other sports as well by the way - esp. tennis.

I've never heard of combined overall categories for men and women's sports. Is total points in basketball the only thing they do it for. If they do it for that then they will have to do for ever stat for every sport played by both men and women.

Records in College Basketball are like apples and oranges. Men's basketball has been highly competitive for years and the quality at the top is exceptional. Coaches and players are at different level. Wins by coaches in both men and women's basketball are outrageously different. Women have coached players in a literally non-competitive sport for years, way behind the men's sport. I find the efforts to equate women's athletes to men's athletes is a complete joke. Please look at the success of the WNBA. Equality here is apples and oranges.

Pistol Pete got his stats in 3 years and 83 games whereas it took Clark 4 years and 130 games

Clark is really good player for a woman/girl. End of story.

There are women’s records and men’s record. We respect the athletes in both but there’s no comparison but I think it’s done for clickbait

Let's not talk about this anymore, let's talk about Caitlin being able to posterize Lebron James in 2013. I see her doing a no look tomahawk jam from the free throw line. Her new nickname will be KO short for King Over...He scared.

I don't compare Caitlin to say Michael Jordan. That's not saying one is the better then other. It's safe to say Michael will never play Woman's basketball and she will never play mens basketball. Each also lives in very different times and eras. Where I DO compare them is in one respect: both are the GOATS of their respective sports. Both are legends. I don't care who has more points. Caitlin sets the standard for women in sports.

Proving the point by missing it completely.

They're not comparing her to Pete Maravich. They're only correctly pointing out that she passed Pete Maravich's scoring record. Don't make something out of nothing.

Just thought I'd pop into to watch the Neanderthals whine about women or something.
She scored more NCAA basketball points than Maravich. That's a fact and in the record books.

LOL, making an issue where none exists. News flash, ll ... all athletes must be compared against those they compete against. Once in a generation athletes need and will continue to be celetratrd.

You folks wasn't talking like this when that LIE was told that Labron James pass Kareem who only made one three point shot in his career ? The woman could not be a towel boy for Pete, who played against MEN! If they want to do this then, lets just combine all the record book? No? Then this is bull! Oh and the three point shot ruined basket ball, it's boring, no moves, just jump shots, the NFL took off even more since that Krap started.
