My drill was SFC Hanson, a no nonsense Vietnam vet. Professional and no hazing. E-5-3 Fort fucking Dix 1981.

I had a DS at Ft Benning that pulled me out of my bunk when I was sick (hacking phlegm) at 2am and made me run the whole PT test before the PT test that morning. He told me he was going to show me how strong he knows I can be and how weak I was acting. Boy was he right. He ran me through the pt test (doing it all with me) and then ran the pt test in the morning after we finished ours. He did that with a lot of us. Thats the standard. He lived it. Don’t know if he’s around still but I really appreciate that to this day.

Old school, but I was sent to the Physical Conditioning Platoon for two weeks, where all we did was work out, three times a day. Made a huge difference, fast. San Diego MCRD, 1984.

LOL. I could only do 5 push-ups on the very first day. This made me a marked man whenever my Platoon got dropped, our DSs would ask for me by name and have me do extra push-ups. I also had to participate in a Remedial PT after evening chow along with those who were in the same boat. I also fell out of every morning run for the first 2 weeks - but I never had to get on that truck because I would still run the whole distance.
By the end of OSUT, I did 69 pushups in 2 minutes, 65 sit-ups in 2 minutes, and the 2-mile run in just over 14 minutes. They knew what they were doing.

Yeah, I know that feeling, I was one of the Fat Boys and received extra attention and physical discipline from my drill instructors. However, it did not break me. It made me stronger because the more they pushed me, the harder I tried, and I never quit once because real soldiers don't quit when the chips are for real. Essayons, Sappers lead the way!

When you are being trained for war don't trust anyone who is being nice!

I remember guys couldn't get the shipping out orders because they were on PT HOLD. They had to stay in boot camp until they could pass.

I failed my 3 mile run time. So i had a weak belt in recruit training. It was hell or high water in the sand

I was the fat body in my basic platoon. Passed a pt test by the end after busting my ass and getting focused on by one drill in specific. I workout five days per week now and I’m Facebook friends with the drill that pushed me to push myself.

If you can't run 3 miles as a 18 - 19 year old, you shouldn't have enlisted or at least prepared. 🙄

Here's a tip for you ladies and gentle people if a DI asks you a question just know there are NO CORRECT ANSWERS.😂

Edit:

I'm speaking from experience

If you failed your first PFT you were dropped to a Physical Conditioning Platoon until you could pass the PFT. Then you were picked up by another platoon. The Marines are not going to wait around for you. If it takes you 6 months to pass, then you’ll stay there an extra 6 months. You should have come prepared.

I failed my first PT, but this was due to an all night smoking. I knew I can pass, but muscle fatigue from the front leaning rest position prevented me from passing the first round.

When volunteering for jobs in basic the DI asked for people with driver’s licenses, guys were chomping thinking they will get to drive a car/truck. Instead they got a wheelbarrow to do weeds & seeds detail. Guys that didn’t volunteer for anything got toilet bowl cleaning duty.

Yeah, once you step on the yellow footprints. The Marines owns you, you become apart of the machine

As soon as it said “so the drills would know not to push too hard” I knew it was a trap 😂

They tricked you into pushing yourself and getting the exercise that you needed to pass the next one
