Would you survive is your body never felt any pain? Is it dangerous to live without feeling pain?
What if you didn’t feel any physical pain when you visited the dentist, stubbed your toe, or hit your hip at the corner of a desk. You’d be Superman and it’d be awesome….right? In today’s video, we talk about how pain is actually good for you. More specifically, we look into folks with congenital insensitivity to pain, or C.I.P, a rare genetic disorder. These ordinary people with extraordinary abilities don’t feel any pain. And while you would think that they are sooooo lucky, by the end of this video, you may reconsider.

Not feeling pain is a disease but not feeling pain AND durability is a super power

My 3yr old has CIP and we have to be very careful with everything. The doctor told us that she could be deadly if we didn't check her temp every few hours to make sure she doesn't get sick and doesn't know it.

Basically you don’t feel pain, but your body can still be injured. Honestly that’s gotta be a tuff illness to live with because you’ll never know if you have any serious injures that could be fatal if you don’t feel the pain.

I remember one episode on "House" when this teenager couldn't feel pain but pretended that she did so doctors couldn't treat her right away.

I actually have this. I’ve broken bones in my fingers and torn a right leg tendon, and felt almost nothing

Invincibility doesn't mean that you can't feel pain, it means that you're incapable of being harmed.

It's worse than that; the full condition is CIPA: _congenital insensitivity to pain with anhydrosis_ so not only do they not feel pain, they also can't sweat. That means they have to constantly be aware of their environment and vigilant of getting damaged, but also of overheating since they can't sweat to cool down. They are in danger of dying in two ways. :-\

At school, my toe slid under the door, my toenail turned purple, my body started to uncontrollably twitch, I couldn’t think straight coz the pain is what pops in my head, blood oozed out and worst of all, it hurt as bad as the pain from Anesthesia Awareness!

There is a difference between invincible and not feeling pain

I wouldn't want to not feel pain but being invincible means your can't be hurt and that sounds good

Normal people: there’s no such thing as not feeling pain!
People with CIP: Am I a joke to you?
