"if you found a machine, you would assume it was designed"

yeah, its weitd that you can immediately separate something like that from being natural. almost like natural and manmade things are different

About Pascal’s wager… Even if it was logically correct, it wouldn’t get close to proving god’s existence.

My personal feeling (as an atheist) is that if people want to believe in a god, that's their business and I don't feel inclined to get up in their face about it. But - and it's a big 'but' - I expect the same in return. And that means that if people try to impose laws or behaviours on me, based on a faith I do not follow, then I have an issue with that.

Actually, I wouldn’t agree that cannibalism is necessarily wrong, or bad. In the case of the soccer team that crashed in the Andes during the Seventies it saved the lives of the survivors, and cost the lives of no one. That a practice is physically or even morally repugnant doesn’t make it wrong under any and all circumstances.

My wife dropped an example of the falsity of the personal experience argument: Poe's _The Murders at the Rue Morgue_ . She recalled that people heard what they assumed to be a human voice; however there was no human making the sound that people heard. Different people heard different languages, depending on what languages they _didn't_ speak. So, for example, someone who spoke French thought they were hearing German, while a German swore they heard French. So, speaking in tongues? If someone spouts gibberish and people are convinced that the gibberish actually means something, they'll find a way to make it fit.

As far as NDE's go, I feel left out. When I had my heart surgery I had many vivid dreams while under light sedation after my surgery. In all these dreams I kept hearing my mom's voice saying "Owen, don't pull on that!" When I woke up, Mom was there and I mentioned it. She said she was telling mye not to pull out my feeding tube> She was only 3 metres away and I heard her though the light sedation. Other people get the Pearly Gates and Angels; I get nagged by my mother.

My favorite rebuttal for Pascal’s Wager is to propose a god that condemns you to hell if you irrationally believed in a god, but heaven if you rationally did not.

When theists bring up Pascal's wager, they always assert "if you believe in god and it's not real, you loose nothing" the seem to entirely miss the actual cost. Which is actually EVERYTHING.

4:30 As someone who works in the medical field, whenever someone makes an extreme medical claim, such as regrowing a limb, I ask for the evidence. Not because I don't believe them (I mean, I don't) but because that's a medical marvel. If the technique could be recreated then so many medical issues can be solved. And if I'm the one who discovered limb regrowth, you can bet I'll be telling everyone and showing them.

No, if I found a machine lying around I would not think “that must’ve been designed!” I would think “Hey, free machine!”

And every single argument has failed and with the biggest being the lack of any sufficient evidence

Pascal's poker wager:
If you gamble all your money every day, you could win big, but if you don't gamble, you won't win anything. Therefore, you should become cripplingly addicted to gambling.

I can't believe an actual point of his was "yeah darwinian evolution can explain the evolution and biology of species, but what about gravity?". How idiotic do you have to be to claim that it's somehow a flaw of EVOLUTIONARY science, that it can't explain GRAVITY, something completely unrelated to evolutionary biology. These people's really just like to hear themselves talk.

If there is a god, why did he make an infinite number of dumbasses?

It will never not be funny when Christians argue against Cannibalism. Whats that you eat and drink again during the communion? And dont give me that "symbolic" shit. At least the catholics believe that it actually becomes flesh during the ceremonie!

When someone tells me that Darwin evolution fails to explain physical constants, I'm justified in disregarding their claim that this proves the Christian god.

i feel like those arguments end with "maybe" at best

like it could be a possiblity, but there's a difference between "could exist" and "exists"

then there's the fact that the more details you add, the less likely it is to be true, it's not always the simlest answer, but very often is

about pascal's wager... there was potential to insert that 1 scene from simpsons where homer said something along the lines of "what if we believe in the wrong god and we're making him angrier every day this way?"
