This is cool. I am very interested now in soldering, programming, and robotics. Way to go TinkerNut!!!

I've been using my Arduino for nearly two years and am pretty damn good at coding it. I learned nothing new from here. But did I still sit through the whole video to watch you? Hell yeah! :D

An Arduino is just an interface for a microprocessor. So basically you're saying that microprocessors are stupid. Currently I've used the Arduino to make a reverse geocaching lock box, a 5v chat server, a CNC mill, and to use beta waves (mind waves) to control objects. And all of those have served an extremely useful purpose. So either you don't understand what an Arduino really is or you just aren't creative enough to use it for things other than cool tricks.

Gigafide, THIS is the kind of stuff your fans want to see more of ! I know you've got other stuff floating about but this is stuff folks at home can really do...good effort!

i don't know if i'll post it as a Tinkernut video since it's a very complicated build, but do a google search for Mantis 9 and you'll see other videos for the build.

I've already purchased mine and am waiting for my exams to end to start doing cool things with it! Can't wait for the next videos :)

Thanks, I wanted to see something like this for a long time.

It uses the C/C++ programming language

That's crazy that you would make a video about this! I saw this device open/close doors in someone's house one time. I never wanted to bother because I thought it would be too hard. Now I know it's not so crazy after all!

@gigafide I know most programmers are self-taught so was wondering how you learnt ur languages, how long it took and if you know any good-quality free sources to learn C#
(My University has a subscription with lynda.com but i've been finding they're only covering the essentials & I've learnt a lot more doing the exercises on codeacademy)
Thanks!

Hey Daniel great video! I was just thinking the other day about Arduino and you came up with this intro video. I am sure you have some more great videos lined up. I like to tell you that my knowledge in C++ in good. Since i am just starting out with hardware could you first give out a list of differences between the various Arduino boards available? I want to their site and I am really confused. Since they Atmega is still a good idea to learn something about the 8051?

2:32 The LED can be used as an input, when placed backwards it can detect light

@gigafide

don't u need to use resistors with leds?
even on litle stuff like this if they try something more complex they can possibly allot of (..) wrong =)

Could you explain a bit about PIC microcontrolers as well?
I like this kind of micro-processor because it can be programmed in 2 languages, they're really powerfull and they have that "simulator" called MPLab that the vendor provides for free.

Could you explain a little more about why you put the LED in the ports you did? Why do you need to connect it to ground? Would it still work if you chose two different ports and used those in the code?

What editing software do u use? I wins see a tinker nut tutorial on how to make videos like you do -3

we did something like this in digital class, but it's a xilinx board instead using vhdl. it's pretty amazing...

I would be great to see some projects with that device.
