I've never met a person who followed politics closely who was happy

I got into politics, fought for what I believed in, and found nothing but anger and frustration. I realized that both left and right had their bad and goods, and I asked myself what's the point of fighting? if we have our own weaknesses and strengths, shouldn't we work together to fit in the blanks of each other? Then I realized its pointless, one side will never agree with the other, its just how it works

The best thing i heard in a while. I am at a point in my life where i actually think about taking a step away from society and i really thought because of that i have some psychological issues. But it seems that i just wanna think clearly.

My wife thinks it's silly, but this is why I recently took up birding/bird watching. She thinks it's pointless - but it's a leisurely activity that gets me out in nature, takes my mind of BS, helps me appreciate my surroundings, and un-plugs me from the craziness of today's world, lol. Sure, it's kind of pointless I guess... but maybe we could use more pointless things in our lives.

I didn't start paying attention to politics until I was 36, and life was way more fun before then. I'm astounded at all the people in their 20s & 30s who are into politics these days. Seems sad to me.

The problem with politics is that people ignore their own faults and only see faults in others and sometimes they have victims mentality

I get crazy looks when I, a 23 year old, say I couldn’t give a shit about politics (my observation has been that my life has never changed based on who is in power but rather through my own action or inaction) as if I’m somehow not doing my duty. Yet I get to watch and eat cereal as some of these people are up in arms over a new "problem" every week without fail. My advice, get a hobby. If social problems really are that important to you, volunteer locally. Tons of way to make a difference in your community, reposting instagram stories will not get it done. Yes or yes

Bill Burr made me realize how stupid it all was. "Every year both sides say that everything good that happened was because of them and everything bad was because of the other side".

At this point, my approach to politics is, “You’re wrong even if you’re right.”

National politics is an endless vortex of rage and hate that only robs you of joy and your ability to empathize and connect with other people. If you actually want to change the world, Live, Laugh, Love.

You’re right man. I was and probably am addicted to politics and I just turned 18 today. Being from India, I happen to pay a lot of attention to the matters of the Indian subcontinent. For no reason, my 2nd interest was in American politics and British after that. It is honestly depressing and you can’t be happy because you cannot undo the things you hear and see. I read number of books written in, in context to, and about the period that was 1920-1950. It just takes life out of you and leaves this feeling like you could sink any moment, your heart feels heavy and burdened. I was just good enough that I’ll be going to med school later this year and economics is also something that fascinates me, my father has created a base for a solid business on which I should be focoused on yet I keep going back to these political things, issues, tensions and struggles.

He isn't just speaking of government. Ignore the politics in anything say family perhaps or at work. He later explained

You may not take interest in politics, but sooner or later politics will take interest in you...
