The 2023 Mazda CX-50 Is An Upscale, More Attractively Styled Right Sized SUV

As the best-selling vehicle in the #Mazda portfolio, the CX-5 is the most important model in the lineup. It makes sense for the company to want to expand on that success but instead of introducing a different variant of the CX-5, the 2023 #MazdaCX50 is an all-new model that builds on that success. The #CX50 is technically built on the newer Mazda3 platform, while adventure seekers can look to the #CX50MeridianEdition for extra off-road capability.

6 speeds is fine, leave them alone. They have refined it enough and it doesn’t gear hunt

I love when people complain about the gears and transmission. But every other car in the same class has a CVT transmission.

I have a 2014 Mazda and have never been happier with a car. Almost 200, 000 miles and absolutely no issues whatsoever. The gas mileage is amazing too.

I bought the Cx50 turbo premium over the phone sight unseen. The closest dealer is over 200 miles away. When they pulled up in my driveway, I was blown away. It is absolutely awesome. Poly metal gray with terracotta interior is beautiful.

The 6 speed automatic is the sweet spot for reliability & function. Plus, the Mazda SkyActiv 6 speed automatic is actually a pretty refined & brilliantly simple design per The Care Care Nut Remix channel guy mechanical breakdown/review of the CX-5. Have fun with those imploding belt/chain CVTs that often fail around the time an extended warranty would expire, or the overly complicated, over-engineered, less-reliable 8/10 speed geared automatics and/or dual-clutch transmissions.

My wife and I just bought this exact model, minus the Terracotta Leather, its too loud for us. aside from a few build quality issues, its been amazing. I actually love the analog cluster, looks high quality. Also the Infotainment is WORLDS better than our prior CX-5. Yes its too far but the turn dial works just fine long as your patient enough to use it. We look forward to many adventures in this thing.

We bought a CX-50 Turbo in this trim and color combo. Very pleased with the power, handling, the ride and the amenities . I don’t have any issues with the transmission. In fact, I think Mazda has one of the smoothest shifting and responsive transmissions around. We are very pleased with all aspects of this vehicle and highly recommend the CX-50 to anyone looking for a new CUV.

I’m glad they stuck with the 6spd and analog gauges. Their transmission is too good to throw away just yet.

Don't fix what ain't broke. Nothing wrong with that 6 speed automatic or the styling

I actually like the gauge cluster, looks very clean and easy to read. I love the white font. My friend bought a 2014 CX-5 when they came out and we took a 3 hour road trip. Drove ok, this looks like a huge improvement but that’s not really saying much. For a premium brand and heading into year 2023, Mazda has to seriously step it up!

Saw one for the first time about 2 hours before this video came out. It's unique definitely stood out.

I don't think Mazda's designs is tired at all. They've been lightyears ahead of most other manufacturers in design who are looking way more long in the tooth than Mazda.

In any case, I'm loving the look of this vehicle. Going to go test drive it and more than likely put an order in. Going to be one hell of an upgrade from my 2013 Toyota Corolla CE.

Also, the hump on the rear is because it's higher off the ground but has a lower roof so they had to put that AWD shaft somewhere.

My biggest frustration with this is that Mazda didn’t use acoustic double paned windows in the drivers and the passenger side doors like the CX-5. It’s quiet but adding the acoustic windows would have made it amazing.

I like the look of Mazda's mechanical gauges and I prefer the smaller variable information screen. Having the speedometer and Tachometer being fixed and always exactly in the same place is a good thing.

I still have a thumbs up BUT you’re looking at the wrong thing buddy.

People who buy this car don’t care about 0-60 and shifts to go faster.

This is a commuter car. We will drive it slow on purpose and the 6speed shifts seamlessly and i will be cruising in 6th at 65mph comfortably.

High quality reliable vehicles. I'm looking forward to their hybrid model.

My wife just bought a CX50 Turbo Premium. We had it for a week. It is a pretty nice car, but I wish it was quieter inside while on the highway and it had more interior storage places. It has a rattling noise coming from the back. I did not expect that from a new car. My wife old car was a Honda Accord touring and it was quieter. Great things about the CX50 are the leather quality is way better than Honda and the AC is way cooler and it looks great, but the back seat of a Honda was way bigger. My wife is very happy with the CX50. She loves the wireless android auto the most and I love the ventilated seats. We are in Texas after all.

I feel like this is 5x better than the new CR-V in terms of quality of materials and options. Great looking car

A lot of the complaints you mentioned are addressed in the CX-60 that they revealed months ago. That vehicle has a full digital gauge cluster, an 8-speed auto trans, plug-in hybrid and inline-6 powertrains, RWD based architecture, etc. The CX-70 that is coming to NA is basically the same, but wider. So we'll see if these features will trickle down to the CX-50 when they refresh the vehicle, or will Mazda reserve them for the more premium and expensive CX-70?

I know that it's not in the same size class, but I paid $44k for our new Tucson Limited PHEV. We're getting 145 MPG with it so far, as we plug it in when the battery gets depleted. We'll likely get over 1, 500 miles per fill up with gas. The tech is fantastic, and the blend of electric power to the 1.6L turbo is amazingly smooth. Also, it qualifies for $6, 587 in Federal tax credits, bringing the price way down below the CX-50. I really like Mazda, but they need to get their act together and should have offered this with a hybrid option right out of the gate.
