Today we have another instalment of a long-term owner's review of the 2023 Mazda CX-50. Now I love my CX-50, have been an owner since November of last year and I'm being super nit-picky here. But I do have some minor complaints as I want to be consistent with every car review and be as critical with this vehicle that I would be with any other on this channel. Let me know what you think about the 7 things I hate about the Mazda CX-50!

None of which are anything like a big deal.

Good honest review, mostly aesthetics. I own one and find the brakes to be a lot tighter and responsive than my old vehicle (Honda). Also, I am a bit older than you and was taught how to accelerate a 4 cyl. engine. When they first came out, many moons ago, I was taught to slowly and steadily increase pressure on the accelerator and the engine will respond much better than mashing it down quickly, especially when coming out of a turn. That's how I drive mine and have no problem with the inherent hesitation that other drivers encounter and complain about. Ya want quick acceleration, get a v-6 but you'll sacrifice mpg. Also, you can switch between sport and normal driving modes with the tap of the toggle switch. I usually drive in sport mode when driving at or under 25-30 mph, bump it back to normal when driving above. Makes me feel like I'm "actively" driving my car. If you are carrying on conversations with passengers or talking on your cell, your attention is not focused on driving and can lead to accidents, tickets or to you being the recipient of a road rage incident. Best wishes.

3 things I hate about my Mazda CX-50.

1. Active grille shutter system replaced at 7k miles
2. Active sense collision avoidance system replaced at 20k miles
3. Battery replacement at 24k miles
4. Don’t buy it.

Great review as always. Hard to hate the cx50. It's hard to find any good soft-roading videos with this vehicle. It would be dope if you did one.

I notice that with the door locking system. You can probably change the locking system in settings to when you put the car in park to unlock all doors

2:00, my pixel 7 does not charge and the battery runs really hot to the point that an warning msg shows:" your phone needs to cool down." While in a my sister's Corolla, it charges just fine.

great video thanks. I was wondering how about the road noise performance of the CX50? Will it be very loud?

You use the word "hate" but then you admit they are "nit-picking" things. Cosmetic issues that you make a big deal of and a few things that seem like legit issues but your video demeanor comes off as nit-picking as a whole. Couple of real complaints are things that you could have figured out and knew about from your test-drive and examination, hence no complaint like Gas mileage and response (a million reviews on youtube, detailed breakdown on handling and throttle-brake response.). Panoramic -you should have seen the limits on first look at the vehicle. Better wheels to fit the off-road feel ( again a million youtube reviews detail the smoothness/luxury aspects rather than off-road prowress - but your wheel issue would have been solved by buying the Meridian PKG. I speced a Meridian for $42K with all-terain tires - off-road capable more than the reg tires you "hate"... again.. you saw them at test drive right? I think the title of this video should have been "5 minor concerns and a couple of pay attentions"

Thanks for this honest review! This helped solidify my decision to buy one because I had some of the same small "nitpicks" about this car, but ultimately fell in love with it!

When you have the car in sport mode, can you just hit the right paddle to shift to the next higher gear? I do this sometimes in my Macan when it is in sport mode.

I just test drove days ago. The panoramic roof opens up well beyond that support bar. The button operation is interesting. You have to slide the button back and that opens it full depth. I can't recall if it's press and hold or press once. I know from a fully closed position, hitting the button once opens it about 6". You hit or hold the button again to go further back. I borrowed a 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium. But in theory the panoramic should work same in every model.

What do you think about the paint issue? I have seen a few comments that Mazda's paint quality is a bit lacking.

What app do you use to track fuel consumption? Seems pretty decent to me! (I currently have a self-build excel file but it is not that practical).

Interesting feedback. Most of the things on your list fo not bother me at all, but I kind of agree on a few of them.
1. The middle vent does look a bit out of place, but as long as it can be positioned to blow where you want it, I don’t really mind it.
2. The cargo door not opening unless all doors are unlocked is a bit if a pain. I picked someone up from the airport, pulled up to the loading area and tried to open the hatch and nothing. I’ll admit it took me a couple extra minutes to figure it out. 😏
3. Gas mileage could be better I agree. On a related note, I know you didn’t mention the IStop feature, and I know a lot of people don’t like it, but to my knowledge, mine has never engaged so I’m wondering if that’s hurting my gas mileage even more? 😕
4. I have no problem with the seats and can’t imagine anyone feeling the stitching on their butt crack unless they’re driving naked. (Or they have the whole “ Princess and the Pea” thing going on)😏
5. One thing not mentioned here is that my CX50 gets water spots something terrible😡 Noticeably worse than any other car I’ve had. I’ve had it waxed, but may need a ceramic coat or something 😢

I'm considering the 2025 cx50 premium. It has 17" wheels, should be smoother ride. No stitching issue with the seats. Still has premium sound. Non turbo, better gas mileage.
