Over the last few years, Mazda has been re-thinking their SUV lineup, enhancing off-road performance and even adding battery-electric powertrains; all without sacrificing style or the on-road performance the brand has long been known for. And that leads us to this CX-50. Its all-new from Mazda! #Mazda #CX50 #MazdaCX-50

Mazda does not play. I saw this on the road recently- gorgeous! Another hit!

I like the fact Mazda has made the 6spd transmission work regardless of what other car companies have been doing with 9spd and 10spd transmissions.

3:27 Clarification, it is a touchscreen while using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

105ft braking is insane for any SUV, let alone a non premium compact model. Wow

I’m cross shopping this with the RDX. I’ve driven the CX50 with both motors. The turbo is definitely worth the extra money. It does ride a bit firm, but it feels a lot like BMW SUVs I’ve owned. I didn’t find the 6 speed to be an issue. I’m waiting for the Meridian package before I decide.

I remember when John would've called a 7.2 sec 0-60 blistering as opposed to 'leisurely', lol.

Saw one parked at the casino last night. My jaw dropped. I am 53 yrs old and have owned two Mazda 3's and a CX7 (turbo). They were all great and sporty running machines. I am looking for a small vehicle (like this CX-50) that isn't too "girly" or grandma's grocery getter looking. As I watched this video, it seemed MotorWeek is kinda hard on this new CX-50...to me, 7.2 seconds to 0-60 is plenty fast and the braking distance is exemplary for this category. So, don't bash Mazda...their soul is on Germany's Autobahn and actually listen to what Americans want.

6spd automatic is excellent for good reliability and longevity the newer transmissions with 9 speed or more gears equal more complexity unreliability. What would be awesome would be 6spd manual which is offered over seas.

I'd have to see the size in person. We shopped Mazda when we got our 2020 Santa Fe but the CX5 seemed too small and the CX9 a little bulbous. Missing was the long discontinued CX7 which likely would have been just right...

Big difference is the CX5 is manufactured in Japan where quality assurance is top priority.

I'm diggin' the exterior a lot more than the interior, I had a 2017 Mazda 6 and this CX-50 has essentially the same set up except for the seats & dash stitching. I also could do without the plastic moulding, much too much for my taste.

Seems like a nice addition to Mazda's lineup but that 9k USD jump to get the turbo is an interesting gamble. It jumps from great value to entry level luxury pricing, which it might deserve, but may give some pause.

I have a 2022 Mazda CX-30, works for me so far, might go for this CX-50 in a few years

How times have changed…I remember when 0-60 in 7.2 was fast for a sports car (1984 300ZX Turbo and 1984 Corvette)

9 and 10 speed transmissions seem to be lacking in reliability, while 6 & 8 speed transmissions have been quite reliable. Mazda is being smart here

I just saw one of these on the road. Lots of presence. They really should have marketed it as the CX5 replacement since that is what it is.

105ft is impressive, there are some sport cars that take longer, amazing actually

Not a fan of the squared off wheel wells. Or the vast areas of plastic cladding, however after seeing one in white yesterday, have to admit it looks better in person. It has alot of presence on the road.

Not gonna complain on the lagging if we are getting 90 in 15 seconds. I’m not a race car driver & I don’t think anyone else around me is. This car is just checking every freaking box imaginable.

Not sure why everyone bags on the 6 speed - the 8 & 10 speeds are there pretty much to mask the inadequate engines most makers put in their cars now, and to appease the fuel nazis. I'd rather have something that winds out a bit and holds a gear a bit longer. 8 and 10 speeds are constantly changing gears in normal driving - it can be an annoyance. Get on the throttle - they jump down 3 gears - as soon as you let off, they are back at 10. Don't care about a couple tenths of a second - much rather have something I want to drive. This thing sounds awesome on the road and doesn't appear to be slow at all. BTW - most other road tests have the 0-60 much lower. Car and Driver had it at 6.6 seconds and praised the acceleration.
