One of the most popular questions I get from my patients when they come see me in the office is "is diet soda bad for my kidneys?".

Diet Sodas are sweetened with all kinds of plant made sweeteners or man-made chemical sweeteners like sucralose, splenda, equal, aspartame or saccharin. So people always ask if those chemicals and sugar alternatives are safe for their kidneys, is it going to hurt them if they have kidney disease, is it going to make their kidney disease over time? Watch this video to see how I answer these questions.

Is Diet soda better or worse for kidneys than regular soda?

Hi, just wanted to say that i stopped diet coke last week (been drinking them daily and nightly for more then 30 years) . I just started to notice that my nails looks more healthy and much more whiter. And I sleep much better. I used to have to drink diet coke in the middle of the night numerous times waking up because my mouth was so dry ! Now, I don't need to drink in the middle of my sleep anymore. Let's hope my kidneys, weight and overall health gets better soon. Thanks for your video !!

Great video. Thanks for posting. I need to stop these sodas. I drink probably 4 a day. I recently had a right hemi colectomy and the surgeon told me to STOP drinking these. Everything came back negative for cancer 🙏

My thought is that all soda is bad for you so if I'm going to have an occasional soda, I may as well get zero calories versus tons of calories with non diet soda.

Great info! Thank you. I gave up regular soft drinks for Chickfila diet lemonade and coffee with sugar free creamer. Do you suppose that these are still the same category as diet soft drinks??

Diet sodas have really gone up in price over the last two years. I'll skip them now, and save some money.

The study is like asking people with kidney disease how many sodas did they drink, did they have hyper tension, high blood pressure or high glucose level. give us a link to the papers.

I've read that colored diet drinks use phosphoric acid to improve taste and that those with CKD are to avoid foods containing phosphorus.

I no longer drink diet soda, except for occasionally Zevia which has no added phosphorus. I had been drinking 2 to 3 diet Dr. Peppers a day. 😢 my kidneys are really bad. Dumb choices I made.

There is a better correlation in individual lifestyles than in group statistics.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) lists diet soda as safe for diabetics to consume. Diet soda is typically sweetened with one of five artificial sweeteners. These sweeteners do not contain calories (or have less than 20 calories), and the ADA reports that they do not cause a blood glucose reaction.Aug 25, 2017

My weight has been constant and fine my whole life. I started drinking diet soda and started picking up weight. Stopped the soda and immediately stated to lose the weight.

I don't even know how many years it's been since I've had pop but I have only had water to drink for 1 year now and I love straight water 💧 so I'm staying on it
