This homemade Red Velvet Cake is soft and moist with an irresistible Cream Cheese Frosting. This is the most requested cake recipe on our site.

RED VELVET CAKE INGREDIENTS:
►2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more to dustpans
►2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
►1 tsp baking soda
►1/2 tsp salt
►1/2 cup unsalted butter
►1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
►2 tsp vanilla extract
►2 large eggs, room temp
►3/4 cup vegetable oil or light olive oil
►1 cup low-fat buttermilk, room temp
►1 tsp white distilled vinegar
►1/2 tsp red gel food coloring

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING INGREDIENTS:
►1 1/2 cups (3/4 lb) unsalted butter
►8 oz cream cheese
►4 cups (1 lb) powdered sugar
►1 Tbsp real vanilla extract
►1/8 tsp or a generous pinch of salt

I made your red velvet cake for a friend that had her 83 birthday. It brought tears to her eyes. She blew out her one candle and we all enjoyed the cake. Our grandsons were home from college and the Army. They were so good excited to take some with them. The frosting was so delicious and the cake was a favorite. I always mix the gel food coloring into the milk! Gets it all off the measuring spoon and you don’t overmix the batter

A good tip to keep your cake platter clean from icing and decorating is using 4 sheets of parchment paper and lay it into a square on the platter. Then you can just pull out the parchment paper sheets when you're done icing and decorating! If that made sense lol I don't bake, but I've seen that tip before.

I have made this 5 times we are addicted. It is THE BEST RED VELVET CAKE RECIPE I HAVE EVER TRIED. Thank you so much for this. I am about to make this again for my nieces. I use 3 7 inch pans to make it a 3 layer and the measuremnts are perfect for it. Thank you again.

Hi Natasha, my sister and I made this today for Valentine’s Day. It was so good! The cake was nice and moist. The frosting was not too sweet, it had the right amount of sweetness. I tried this recipe Sunday. It's Wednesday now and the cake is still unbelievably moist. This is the softest red velvet cake I've ever had. I have to make some adjustments to the time and temp. After 30 minutes, mine was still liquid in the middle. I left it in for an additional 30 minutes and it started to burn at the bottom.
