I believe in celebrating traditions. I have let go of some traditions and I have created new ones. My annual Pennsylvania Dutch dinner and dessert emerged from a graduation party in a residential treatment facility. Everybody enjoyed the event so I shifted it to a family feast that we hold the Sunday before Thanksgiving. This year marks year 21.

If you have traditions that cause you stress or bring up intergenerational pain, segue into newer, healthier traditions. Recovery and mental healthcare are all about learning to take care of yourself. Choose the path to become the hero of your own epic journey.
