That's unreal. I've been a Software Engineer since the days they called us "programmer/analysts". In my 40+ years of experience, I never made close to that

For more senior roles, level 5 or above salaries range from 400k to over a million.

If it's Google, the equity portion of the compensation is a pretty large chunk. Depending on how the stock performs at the time, it could be anywhere from 1/3 to 3/5 of her total package. The other thing is that those with high base salaries tend to get them in locations where it is tremendously expensive to live. E.g., you might find a job that pays you $250k base, but mortgages or rent sets you back about $8000 per month.

It has been fairly well known that software engineering is a lucrative career choice for at least the last 20 years. Probably got another 20 or so in it.
