Elden Ring (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S/One) is filled with awesome weapons and items, but it also has plenty of stinkers. Here are our least favorite/useful weapons.

Sidenote on the torch... It illuminates dark areas about 50% more than a lantern, but what's even cooler is that if you equip both, it combines their light, making even the darkest area super bright for a good draw. I know in most cases the lantern will suffice, but there are ambush moments and lurking enemies that pretty much count on you having the limited light source of the lantern, but with the added light of the torch you can spot them much easier. It's pretty cool that the light "stacks", and I feel the lighting effects is were the his game shines graphically.

The beast repellant torch will stop agro on MOST wild animals. So far, I've tested on wolves, basilisks, trex wolf guys, "some" Ant type enemies, and a few others and is very useful in dungeons.

The Serpent Hunter is honestly pretty good on a strength build. Yeah the ash is bad but you can always just use a shield with a good ash instead.

The briar greatshield could be amazing with one simple fix: any enemy you block takes bleed build up

The Sentry's Torch is useful. It dispels illusions such as walls, and invisible enemies like the Black Knife Assassin in Sage's Cave

I'll defend the soldier's crossbow now. See, for many pure melee builds it's not really about sniping enemies but about luring out enemies so you're not dealing with a huge pack. And since the lock on distance in this game is pretty huge, having a crossbow in your off-hand is super handy. It's not a powerhouse by any means but it is the lightest crossbow and the requirements to use one are really low. 8 dex and 10 str means anyone can use this badboi in their offhand.
It helped a lot during some places where I simply couldn't afford to take on a bunch of enemies so, I whip out old realiable, shoot one of the baddies and take them out one at a time.
Don't sleep on the crossbows people!

So off the bat the flail is meant for heavily armored enemies like stone imps or clayman they're good at clearing low level mines with wild slashes. You build stagger like crazy spear is good for whats for pushing a line and being able to keep your shield up while advancing. The torch can light the stone people with the pouches on their back. Early level they save your life

The serpent hunter is also good in PvP it has a good and fast doge/crouch attack and good running attack, both attacks can be used for role catching, only downside is you can‘t change the ash of war, but overall this weapon is pretty good

The thorn staff makes the intelligence spells scale of faith, so as long as you have enough for the intelligence requirement the thorn staff is good for faith builds if they want to cast certain lower level glintstone spells.

Flail is great for early level dex users exploring crypts and mines. The strike damage is really good against skeletons, miners, and the imp statues.

Main thing for the flail is that it’s a strike weapon for dex builds early game. It requires very little str.

For a starter - I advise to give the Staff of the Guilty a chance especially if you want to take advantage of Arcane Bleeding Build if you have both Briar of Sin as well as Briar of Punishment. You can later replace the Staff of the Guilty with something like the Albinauric Staff for better scaling with Arcane.

Don’t hate on the torch lol, steel wire torch has a sick ash of war that acts like a flame thrower. I slept on the lantern long enough to really enjoy the torch. Then I got gud😂

I just realized that there’s no broken sword in the game…

Also, the flail is is one of the best horseback weapons. Also great on a holy (or other elemental) build, as it doesn’t have the high requirements of other flails. Been using that thing the whole game

Also the torch pole used to be good. It had decent faith scaling, making the fire damage pretty good. But they completely removed the scaling on patch 1.03

Soldiers Crossbow is the lightest 50 range weapon, tied with a certain bow you get pretty late. I actually preferred it over Arbalest or the Light Crossbow (which is, in fact, heavier) during the first hours of the game as i was scrambling for Equip Load and did not care at all for its damage. It‘s the lightest thing for good FP-free pulling of enemies.

the flail slaps early on whenever you have no extra stats and it's really good when mounted.

The only truly useless weapon from souls that I can think of is probably the ladle from Dark Souls 2.

The fail weapon art is meant to be followed up with a light or heavy attack, you don't just spin it 😂

i used the flail for the longest time at the beginning, the strike damage + bleed + non-parry + quick guard-counter, helped out alot until the nightrider
