I think this is one of Dr. Dray’s best videos. I wish I had this information when I was 20-30 years old. When she said the damage on your hands and forearms can be profound she’s not kidding. Prevention is always easier than corrective. Take precautions now to keep what you have. Blessings 💕

Dr Dray BRAVO! Kudos to you for promoting the prevention of skin breakdown. I'm an RN in NYC. Skin integrity is underrated but crucial to good health. There's an expression skin is the largest organ (its an indicator of perfusion, nutrition, health status and types of cell signaling), it protects and reflects all our organs and how they'er running. Pressure injuries (small and large) are horrendous. The skin barrier protects from all types of infections from small local to problematic systemic infections and not just infections of the skin. Very important for diabetic care, people on steroids. It is so important for longevity to protect your skin. You are a maverick for starting this conversation. And inspiring others like myself to discuss it too.

I work with the elderly and skin breakdown is a serious problem for them I see it everyday. I would love to be able to prevent that for myself. Thanks for all your advice Dr. Dray

Since last November, I started to follow Dr. Dray's instructions, using fragrance-free skin care products and moisturizer before retinol, etc...my skin has never been so radiant for many years...I use to get red patches and tiny blood vessels on my face...all these are gone...thank you so much Dr. Dray!!!

What a great message. I’ve seen the problems with skin integrity in aging parents. It’s no joke. Thanks for your education!!!!

What you say about sunscreen is so true. I work in home care and worked in a nursing home this past year. This may be TMI but I have seen on the elderly places "where the sun don't shine" and skin integrity is always so much better. Skin tears (that often didn't heal) where on the arms, hands, shoulders where there were tons of sun spots and there were hardly any on peoples backs, stomachs, or thighs. Granted you would think skin tears could happen easily in these places because of the use of gait belts or mechanical lifts. Also what you say about nutrition is totally true (and just taking care of ourselves in general). Some of the elderly or people in rehab facilities that I have seen with bed sores generally did not take care of themselves and developed a disease which made them bed ridden or unable to walk (thus developing the sores). So I guess what I mean to say is that we all might be slapping retinol and vitamin C on our faces now, but if we don't take care of the rest of our health then what is the point if we die from an infection of the skin or go sepsis from a bed sore but have a wrinkle free face?

This is no joke. My father is 84 and the skin on his arm tears easily. Its so sad, its so fragile, and at this point there's not much he can do.

You are so adorable and BRILLIANT. As a fellow medical professional and skincare fanatic (obsessive may be the word) I love how you present evidence-based research to people in a way that’s easy to digest. Thank you for this! Have a beautiful day!

Excellent video, particularly for us seniors. HRT is definitely out for me personally. Developed HR2 breast cancer unlike anyone else in the family and now am on a long term estrogen suppressant. Best medical guess for the cause was HRT.
All your tips, other than the personal nonos are just what I needed. You hit the nail on the head with a sledge hammer!

Thanks so much.

I'm going to guess, before watching the video, that sunscreen helps?

I’m helping my 78 year old mother who still does gardening around her home every day. I am encouraging her to wear arm sleeves, gloves, only work during early morning or evenings when the sun is down. She’s putting on sunscreen in the morning, moisturizing during the day and going to full body red light therapy a few x a week. Hoping this can turn around some of the extreme skin thinning.

More fruits and vegetables, eggs, lean protein, less sugar and more sleep.

Again, I wish I knew or had this advice many years ago. My mom always said youth is wasted on the young. When you're young you don't think you'll ever need this advice nor are you likely to follow it but listen to what Dr. Dray is saying. ♥️

I always get a white cast on my face and my family and coworkers always make fun of me and I'm like "I look like casper but I'm protecting my skin from uv ultra light radiation, skin aging and hyperpigmentation!" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thank you for this video. My mom has that horrible thinning skin and I can verify that not only is it not great from an aesthetic point, but boy has it caused the bruising, tearing etc and I worry about infection for her. Her skin around her middle looks like baby skin so I know that the sun has wreaked havoc on her arms and hands. I hope your listeners take heed and do some of the steps you mention thinking long-term.

Thank you for this! Will you do an in-depth video on ways to treat already thinning skin?
