I've been setting my alarm at 5am for over 10 years now it still hasn't got any easier haha

I have been an early riser for about 5 years and it is so good. Wherever I go, I go to bed at around 9.30 pm and I wake up at around 5 am with no alarm. I have a job but I don't need an alarm clock to wake up. I have my glass of water with lemon first thing and after about an hour I have my coffee. It does so much good to me this routine, it is engraved in me. And this is every day, I don't distinguish between weekends or holidays, I do this every day.

I really believe some people are just not made for mornings. About 6 months ago I woke up at 5:15 am, I went to bed between 8:30-9:00 for 2 weeks straight. I was tired all the time. I fell asleep during lectures. I was miserable. I can function perfectly fine on 7 hours of sleep from midnight to seven.

Partly way I go to a gym outside of the home. The little chit chats with random folks you cross paths with really help me and I feed off the others who are really going after it!
And I watch the sun rise on the elliptical every morning with some great tunes or a speaker on the headphones.
Getting up isn’t easy (especially at 4am) but it sure has gotten easier.

This all sounds great. But I have been working at 6 a.m. for 6 months, 6 days a week, and have not gotten used to it. Fall asleep at 8 PM. If I stay up late and wake up late I feel fully energized. I swear people are simply wired differently

During a year long mandatory military service (Finland) we woke up at the latest at 6am, sometimes earlier if on a training camp. Didn't really get used to it. Sure it got easier and I started waking up around 6 without the alarm clock, but still was tired every morning and didn't feel sleepy until very late at night.

I'm definitely an outlier of some kind. Tried it for 6 months. Did all the things, but my clock would never shift over. My circadian rhythm has always oriented towards getting tired hours after it's been dark and wanting to sleep continuing into hours after it's light 🤷🏼‍♀️

He is absolutely right. There is one catch people don't realize this - to keep being an early bird, you need to maintain this routine. If you get sick, if it's a weekend, you still need to aim at waking up as early as you set for yourself. On the bright side - it won't be very hard. I am a morning person for about 4 years now and counting. I'm very happy

Been a night owl for as long as I can remember, waking early I feel like crap no matter how many days or weeks I do it .Lots of things need to be done later in the day !

“How does one adapt to getting up earlier?”

“Get up earlier”

Also, if you struggle with snoozing, turn off the snooze function. And immediatly after your alarm goes off, get up, turn on the lights, and start making your bed. The lights and moving around will quickly wake you up and you will be less inclined to climb back into bed once it's been made.

Dr. Huberman, I woke up at 5am for over 2 yrs and worked out and showered and prep to leave for work. I can count on one hand how many times I didn’t struggle to wake up 5am and mostly felt tired. I am also not a late sleeper. I naturally wake up between 6:30- 7am w/o an alarm. 🤔

As a first responder, Having a duty shift that started at 4am was a great jump start.

We do well what we do often.

Beautiful, I've been using this since childhood. Whenever I need to sleep late for a few days. It only takes 2-3 days to get back on track.

As someone who had to rise early all his life and still is tired every morning, I can say with confidence: This does not work on everyone.

I believe it has to do with what you are doing on a daily basis as well... do you have a goal in life? A project? A passion? Someone to love in your day to day life? It feels like the less activity and goals you have in your life the less motivated you are to wake up .

I've done that. But whenever something happens that breaks the cycle, you're back to square one. There are people who have been naturally accustomed to sleeping at 10pm for years, and if they don't do it life becomes difficult for them. Do they break cycle, they fall back. Haven't met many people who just changed their natural behaviour forever
