While many are reporting the record pre-sales for Spider-Man: No Way Home and touting it as a guaranteed smash hit, they seem to have forgotten about when they were saying the same thing about Solo: A Star Wars Story #spiderman #nowayhome #spidermannowayhome #solo #boxoffice

“That dastardly web-crawler is at it again. He’s padding the box office numbers! What a menace!” - JJ Jameson

Historically speaking, you are correct. We see these repetitive headlines all the time.

For once, Deadline might actually be right and this will be smashing box office numbers.

It’s still a win win for Marvel. Yes they get only 25% of the profit but Disney bought the merchandising rights from Sony back in 2011. Kids all around me have Spider-Man toys, games etc…Not to mention this sets up Dr strange nicely for his 2nd film not to mention if the rumors are true about Daredevil being in this film, that again helps set up Marvels future films & streaming shows.

Spiderman will make a billion even though it's the pandemic era.. If not pandemic I think 2 billion is possible.

I believe, firstly, as you said, it's a very popular IP. They instantly makes it the most hyped Marvel property of 2021. Compare this to Black Widow, Eternals, Shang Chi, Spiderman is a legendary character.

Secondly, the trailers have been pretty soild and somewhat nostalgic seeing our favorite villains comeback. It's destined to be the biggest success of the pandemic and year even if the film sucks.

'2nd biggest day' isn't setting a new record...its failing to beat the old one.

I tend to agree with the pre sales mean nothing..I can't even remember how many times ppl like John Campea has went on and on about huge pre sale ticket numbers as if it's a big deal and then when the movies numbers drops after week two and fails there is little mention of those huge pre sale numbers that were spoken of with such passion by him and others as if a hit movie was guaranteed bc after that comes the pandemic excuses for why it failed..strange how as they where going on and on about the pre sales, that wasn't mentioned at all.

Spiderman will make money. Every time someone talks about Solo I question how KK still has a job.

I’ll go watch it but probably not on opening weekend just due to the craziness lol. Also the only seats available near me on the day I have availability are dead in the front haha.

I cannot imagine how much money Disney left on the table by making the MCU woke both on D+ and in theatrical releases. I have left D+ and haven’t seen a single MCU movie this year. But, I will most likely see Spiderman.

A lot of the digital outlets are showing a lot of seats still available, and considering the reduced max capacity, I think they may be "creatively" analyzing their data (again). However, I do think that even if this is a plot-holed filled mess, it will break a Billion (before taxes). The normies are going to eat up two Spidermen, and one Spiderboy on the screen at the same time, not to mention all the classic villains. This looks like it has ALL the jangling keys, and enough CGI to mesmerize quite a few people. I would not be surprised if it is one of those bad movies, that are still fun to watch.

I honestly hope this movie is good, on a personal level I have found the Marvel Spiderman movies to be strangely better than expected.

We talking about MCU also have you forgotten Endgame

The only good thing about Solo is that @Problembeing is in it...and he told me that filming was so bad that Disney made everyone sign a NDA!

Personally I'm sick to the back teeth of superhero movies. That said. If this movie ain't woke, gives some 'le school enjoyment and happiness to the world and puts some bloody hard needed cash into the local cinema's it would be a blessing. Because 1984-Europe is locking down again. At least my country is.

Now, talking about hating superhero movies (and I'm not a fan of animation either (and I don't play video games) but did you see the new animation series: 'Arcane' ? Talking about strong, female leads. It has it all; a good, characters driven storyline, where most people are not bad but existing in the grey zone (like most of us). Moreover it's gorgeous to look at and it's more real and believable than 99% of the crap Hollywoke produces these days. Give it a try.
(I didn't like all the music, esp. during the fight scenes (not a fan of that kind of modern pop and rap music, loved the classical pieces though because they are eternal) but for the rest; a beautiful, harsh steampunk world where you actually feel for the characters. Quite unique these days.

It'll do great. Prob smash $100m opening weekend domestic. Might even crack a billion worldwide. But the comparisons to Endgame presales mean nothing. Sure, the demand is no bad thing, its a great sign, but there's no way in hell No Way Home does Endgame opening weekend or overall box office business. It just wont.

It'll do Civil War business (at best). So I absolutely agree, presales are a good first measure but are in no way a means to determine eventual box office business. The comparsions are a marketing exercise (which by the way I dont blame Sony or anyone else from utilising.) And that's how they should be taken.

Hope the movie does well and is a good time.
