It's scenes like this that convince Willem Dafoe would've been the greatest Joker, that sadly we never got. He is probably one of the very few actors who could give Heath Ledger a run for his money.

In fact, I think I heard that for Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, Willem was actually considered for the role of the Joker, but after the latter's starring in the highly controversial film: The Last Temptation Of Christ, the producers then reached out to Jack Nicholson.

Little known trivia, that before The role went to Val Kilmer, Willem was also originally considered for the role of Doc Holliday in the movie Tombstone, but again because of his work on the aforementioned film, Willem was again swept off the table.

In fact, Willem stated in an interview a few years ago that because of his role in The Last Temptation Of Christ, it had continued to cause him to be rejected for roles in other films, until a few years prior to that interview.
