That blue webbing welds like a mother.

I use a special rappelling sling. The loop for the belay/rappell device is about 30cm above the harness and the whole sling is about 1m long. The long end serves as self belay at the belay stations. Especially handy on multi pitch rappells. It also can easily be made with a normal 120cm sling.

This is my absolute favorite way to extend a rappel except I usually basket hitch the sling through my tie-in points instead. This creates more redundancy because in the unlikely scenario that my belay loop blows I don't lose the entire system, just my third hand.

Great tip. The redundancy is especially critical if you're using a dyneema sling. Doesn't take much to cut through those things.

Alpine climbers always use this. Some use a longer sling so that in the end there's an exposed loose end that can be used as a personal anchor (combined with another carabiner).

Great advice to tie an overhand knot in the sling to make it redundant.

Do you prefer a beefier nylon sling vs a 60cm dyneema sling girth hitched?

Why not put the sling through your hard points?

Can you use the sling in the other 2 loops ?

Can the overhand knot ever be removed once loaded?

Good to have a 120 sling on you at all the times. To use it as an extension or for the LSD lowering method. Versatile.

There's no tether to attach to the anchor though
