I can always do heavier weights with this, but my wrist strength prevents me from activating my back… guess I need to work on forearms.

I used my Streatch bands to re create this idea in a chair and pull down from a door area

You are taking the bar to low creating a forward rotation in the shoulders which can result in injury.

Thank you for this. I started working out and I couldn’t understand the lat pull down machine and felt intimated to ask one of the guys there so I just skipped the workout and went into rowing instead

Aim to have your elbows in line with your hips. Don't let them go back.

Since I’m kinda light, the machine pulls me up quite a bit, and I’m worried about slamming the weights back down since I go to planet fitness.

Well yes it was quick and to the point but I think it's not for beginner, you should have shown us lats movement when to squeeze and when to relax until your body starts adjusting on its own.

The thumbs should be over the bar, not curled round the bar. Doing this engages more of the upper arm muscles which is not the goal of the exercise.

He says place your hands shoulder-width apart and then proceeds to place them about 3 feet apart, he needs to take a look in the mirror

You are not demonstrating this exercise correctly! You do not need to pull the bar that low which is making your shoulders rotate forward. That opens you to all kinds of injuries plus its not targeting the back correctly.
