you know the plant is seriously impractical when gc has some strong opinions on the matter

The entire thing is basically something you can do when you finish everything and have nothing else. XD

"This is sadly not power positive." Entropy finally has a win in this game.

i once saw someone playing spaced out who got a mutation of gas grass that took no light to grow

Thank you for the info and your dedication. There's a few, "unconventional" solutions to the problems this plant produces. If space limitations are a problem you can stack the plants vertically by using planter boxes and window tiles. If liquid chlorine is being problematic in the pipes growing them in planter boxes prevents leaks, if I remember correctly the internal storage of the box prevents state changes, it does requiere duplicant labor to supply the chlorine and dirt manually but if a rancher is gonna come in to groom moos nearby it shouldn't matter too much. Lastly plant mutations can make growing them more bearable even if getting the seeds is difficult, particularly I think I remember that in a patch note they removed the light requirement for the exuberant mutation due to it needing total darkness as the added condition. This is all more technical so your point still stands. Great video.

Producing 20 kg Brackene from the following plants requires...
Nosh Beans: 11.55 kg water (from domestic Arbor Trees)
Sleet Wheat Grain: 55 kg water
Pincha Peppernut: 227 kg water
.
The Gassy Moo converts 1 kg chlorine into 50 kg Brackene per cycle.
.
In addition, the Gassy Moo only needs to be milked every 4 cycles. Gassy Moos are a far more resource & dupe operation efficient source of Brackene over the Plant Pulverizer.

If I was going to make gas grass useful, I’d like to see them be natural air filters, turning polluted oxygen into oxygen, and on harvest drops a lot of seeds for paku and dirt

There are now Mercury Ceiling Lights from frosty planet pack so I guess the light requirement a little less annoying, since they require very little power and just require mercury "fuel" (which you can get from ceres ore field space POI - and you need to go to space to get these plants and the moos anyway). Still I feel like gas grass and gassy moos are more of a late game "I have nothing better to do so I'll just do this for the lulz" thing.

Carved lumen quartz from frosty would probably work as well although you might need a significant amount of those.

It would be nice if you could process harvested gas grass into gas bushels and feed those to gassy moos. You could wild farm with gas grass planted wildly at top of the wild farm.

Cooling chlorine is no problem. It has little thermal mass, and you need so little of it the cost of cooling doesnt really matter. You can just tap into the naturally occurring chlorine pools in the moo planet and never even worry about cooling chlorine for 1000s of cycles.
The real problem is the warm dirt which goes into the ranch and eventually leaks heat outside - causing hydroponic tiles to warm up and result in broken chlorine pipes.
The light /power requirement is no issue in the moo planet. You just need an additional 1/3 plants to make up for the dark periods, gassy moos can eat the growth regardless of the time of day. Since plants are stifled in the dark and consume no resources, there is no point to strive for 100% uptime other than floor space. If you want to go for the lamp option, moo planet is still excellent because solar power is so powerful there. In addition whenever there are meteor showers, you will get extra moos (meat). The planet's own temp will also allow you to easily set up a freezer to keep all the meat that you recieve in large chunks fresh.

Although gas grass and moos are annoying, the setup is still the easiest source of brackene - which means you can fully automate multiple other ranches. Moos individually also provide a very good chunk of calories, in terms of full ranches, they are comparable as a source of BBQ to hatches or slicksters. Compared to BBQ from other ranches they require fewer groomings, but collecting them from space will be labor intensive.

gas grass doesnt produce grass or gas....

What would you say is the brackene source you would recommend? Gassy Moos don't seem to demand much operation time over any of the Plant Pulverizer stations.

I only need this for 100% achievements. Such a pain, but I suppose there should be some good challenges late game to earn them.
