Had chronic back pain for years.... eventually kept getting worse, went to a chiropractor and adjusted my back so bad I couldn't walk upright for a day. Come to find out, I had a fracture S1/L5 that turned into a BREAK!

You can't really argue any of these points but as someone who's been to a chiropractor, the instant relief you get from an adjustment, cant be ignored. What bothers me most about chiropractors, is that they charge an extortionate amount for doing the same thing over and over again. They will try to pressure you to go back every week, saying it's better for you in the long term.

As a chiropractor myself Dr. Raynor was pretty bang on with his assessment. An adjustment is just a modality to help remove temporary restrictions in joints to improve movement patterns. Its an adjunct in therapy along with activity modification, exercise prescription and active strengthening - and is not the treatment itself. Treatments should vary from patient to patient. Find a chiro who invests in your health, best way to spot a good chiro is one who has an endgame to your treatment plan - the goal should be to get you off treatment. If the chiropractor wants you to keep coming and sign up for long treatment plans, find a new one.

3:57: “you’re bringing out the strap huh?”

Something about that line and the delivery made me chuckle

Loved the shout-out to Bob and Brad (the most famous physical therapists on the internet) at the beginning of the video. Those guys have been putting out quality content for years. Always my go-to for physical therapy advice.

I agree with you on this particular chiropractor. I’ve thought the same from watching his videos. He does the same routine to everyone no matter what their situation is.

This video hits every—single—point I’ve ever had about chiropractors and especially those on YouTube, but it does so far more scientifically. Thank you! Thank you for making it all so simple, too. Now, take this follow!

I have personally experienced this type of chiropractic care. At one point I went to a chiropractor multiple times a week for a full year. Just like in these videos, I was temporary relief but never no lasting healing. The second time I went for three months multiple times a week where I would get strapped in to this supposedly state of the art decompression table. I followed the doctors instructions perfectly during my treatment. The chiropractor swore that my herniation in my L5 was no longer there but would not follow up with additional x-rays. I spent $4000 and again after 2 plus months there was no healing and to be honest I think I was worse. One year later I went to a Neurosurgeon and got an MRI and the herniation in my L5 was still there and I had a tear in my L6. This doctor didn’t feel I was quite ready for any surgery so he referred me to their physical therapist. Their physical therapist happen to be a chiropractor but knew that adjustments wasn’t what I needed. With her help and a massage therapist they pointed out some stretches I was doing that they felt was in flaming the disc in my lumbar region and then gave me three stretches that they thought would help me greatly. I consistently did those stretches for the next three months and have continued noun for over five years. I was told from chiropractors never to lift over my head never to squat again. This therapist told me that as long as an exercise isn’t hurting me you’re making things worse she didn’t care if I lift over my head or did squats. For the past five years although I still have some stiffness and a bit of mobility issues in my lower back, I have experienced very little pain. That was never the case during my chiropractic care.

It’s such a relief to hear such an informed video on this topic!

I do occasionally go to a chiropractor for the self-indulgent reason of it “feeling good”.

I truly worry for people with extreme and specific pain expecting unique treatment or a miracle cure to their pain, but getting the same generic adjustments.

I love this. Since I was a kid in the 80s I've seen commercials for all kinds of miracle cures. And as get closer to 45 I'm still screaming " that's going to make it worse"! Not saying you should devote your channel to these things but maybe a " miracle cures Monday" or something. You're literally breaking down the how and why for stuff and adding in the whole " this is obvious if you think about it" it's great. Please keep it up.

Doctor you are 100 percent correct I've been saying this about cipriano for 2 years. He does the exact same thing every single time on every single patient no matter what. Now some chiropractors do it correctly they take exrays and adjust the patients very specifically they also work with patients teaching them the lifestyle changes that they need to make to assist their chiropractic adjustments doc thank you so much for this excellent and informative video

Sometime jist having that little bit of instant relief can have a profound effect on a person especially if that relief is constant pain and discomfort... even to have that relief last hours or days most doctors would otherwise prescribe a medicine when only some manipulation is needed aside from physio therapy ... manipulation or drugs may not fix the underlying issue .... but that temporary relief more helps the persons mentally during the healing process

Excellent work. As a chiropractic student, in clinic we are required to write individualized care plans. Different treatments are used for different areas of the MSK system. Additionally, nutrition and physiotherapy are often used. The field is catching up to the research. Unfortunately some of us are left in the dark ages.

I very much agree that many chiropractors follow the one treatment fits all model, but I have seen a few that aren't like that. Recently I was diagnosed with a herniated disc between T2 and T3, which is a relief in and of itself because I have been in pain for several years with no answer. Unfortunately two surgeons have told me that this cannot be the cause of my pain and would not do surgery on it, which I find odd. I'm pretty certain that is where the pain is coming from. I continually told doctors that I thought something was going on in my upper thoracic spine, but was always told it was nearly impossible because of how rare such an injury is. When I finally managed to get an MRI, there was a herniation exactly where I kept telling them the problem was. So I'm pretty sure of it myself. I've tried every conservative treatment possible with no relief.

So I decided to see my old chiropractor I hadn't seen in a couple years and thought that maybe if he had a diagnosis to work off of, he might be able to help this time. He took a careful look at my MRIs and we had a long conversation and he said that he absolutely recommended I see another surgeon. This wasn't something he was going to touch because it was too severe. He suggested that if I can't get surgery, to talk to a doctor about getting prescribed a cervical traction device. He said that because of how high in the spine my herniation is, it might help improve the disc over a long period of time, but that it would be a slow process.

I left without an adjustment and even more respect for the guy than before. Unfortunately I am still in pain and waiting for different doctors appointments, but just know that not all chiropractors are quacks. Some actually take the time and have the integrity to do what is best for the patient.

Some of his videos definitely do feel like performance. Part of the problem is when you advertise yourself as the Y strap doctor patients are coming in with the expectation that they will get the Y strap. So he basically just does that to everybody.

I love bob and brad and appreciate you showing their channel. Many of their videos have helped me to either prevent more injury or help increase my mobility. (I also go to physical therapy at a hospital too)

I get the instant relief chiropractors provide, but I never got around to going to one. Over the years I’ve cleaned up my diet(avoiding processed sugar/foods) and incorporated a daily stretching regiment for a shoulder injury that is nearly a decade old. The result is I have way more mobility in that area than I used to and I am no longer in pain, but it has taken years of consistent effort, consultations with physicians and my own research. The point you bring about healing being a gradual process is so incredibly spot on, I think a lot of people misunderstand that.

Great video, Doc! My wife suffers from chronic pain and migraines due to some poor parenting and car accidents and your videos on sudden spinal adjustments are helping us make better choices on how to go about physical rehabilitation. I totally agree with instant relief and that it is extraordinarily temporary given that your muscles are what hold your body together and no amount of bone popping is going to train the muscles to maintain the correct position/alignment.

Anyways, good stuff as always. Also I'm a 40k nerd.
