Sir! This was extremely helpful! I had my first class the other day. I was all excited after completing the waivers. I got in line during warm ups. The group was doing shoulder rolls. I’ve never done a shoulder roll in my life. I didn’t ask the instructor first. I just jumped in and guess what? The first time I do a shoulder roll I do it wrong, of course, and sprain my left thumb. My hand swells up like a tennis ball! Yep. The very first thing I do in class. I injured myself. I pushed through the whole class because I love it so much. After class, I Iced my hand, took some Advil, and had my chiropractor adjust my hand. But it was a lesson learned because I realize I need to do all the things to support that activity. For example, I sprained my thumb because I was so tight from lack of mobility. Also, I realized don’t do anything in that class until you have a clear understanding of how to perform the movement. At any rate, thank you for sharing!

57 blue belt. Yes thank you for this topic. Take care of your body. Thank u. I'm a person that goes 0 to 100 lol. But now I listen to my body. Sparring light some days 75% on hard days for me. And yes let your training partners know this. They can always roll with someone else. I have great partners who understand this totally!!!

My father is 60, and he gives as good as he gets. His game is slower, crushing, pressure-y. As long as your body works, you can do it. Great advice!

Just starting at 59...been in 6 classes and love it !....doing it with my 11 year old grandson.
The muscle soreness is bad but I can deal with it, but what is worrying me a little is my knees are REALLY feeling stiff. I’ve never had any knee issues and I am wondering if this will slowly get better as I get used to it ? Nobody is doing leg locks on me ...I think it is just spending time on my knees on the mat. Thoughts ? Thx !

51 year old purple belt. I love it. Train 5x a week, but at a slower pace and more drilling.

just finding this channel now, Google definitely should I have known I am in my 40's. But I am 44 with no end in sight for me but definitely need to change up my game as I go. I had acl surgery in my late 30's and it does not go away. I don't know if I tap early, but i am definitely very picky as to who I will roll with.

Good advice. Take it from a 53 year old, he's right.

I think older beginners should consider taking some private lessons until they get a decent understanding of what to expect.

Get used to losing you are not able to meet the standard anymore, you do know that you're supposed to be good at this right that's the whole idea of putting time and effort into something 🤣
