"Concepts are way more important than individual techniques" really resonates with me. At my skill level I find remembering all the techniques you've demonstrated since I stared very difficult. Especially in the heat of a roll. But the concepts are more universal. These I can work on, bit by bit. I think this is your best video to date coach.

Sorry for the delay guys! Been really busy/stressed lately. My gym is almost certainly going to have close temporarily within the next few days due to the new restrictions here. 4th time closing since the pandemic started 😩. I'll be focusing on the youtube channel during the time off.

I know people are constantly criticizing your monotonous voice but I actually enjoy it. It’s not distracting and is easy to follow with your videos. It’s how you are and it’s gotten you this far so imo, no need to change. Great tips, this video can help build a strong foundation in anyones jiu jitsu!

PLEASE DO A BJJ CONCEPTS TIER LIST! We cant remember everything at first but it would be very nice to know what the number one most important thing to remember is, then number 2, then number 3, etc. We might not be able to remember very far down the list in the beginning but it would be extremely helpful to know where to focus our attention. Love your videos by the way, ive already improved a lot from watching, thank you. OSS!

0:00 sit instead of lay in your guard - it's hard to reach grips from your back. from seated position you can sit back or play sit-up guard.
0:31 keep your toes on the mat - from side control keep your toes on the mat so you can drive your weight into your opponent.
0:45 trap arms to make submissions easier - make it an unfair fight. your 2 hands against their 1, or their none against your 1, will make submissions easier.
1:13 control the legs when finishing a sweep - prevent the scramble. controlling the legs ensures you come up on top, not your opponent.
1:38 break grips that stop you from doing what you want to do - you don't need to break every single grip. only grips that stop you from advancing position.
1:56 take grips to control your opponent - if you don't control them, they will control you. lack of grips allows for easy attacks against you.
2:16 clear the elbow/knee line - in almost all cases, once you are clear of the joint line, you are clear of the submission threat.
2:44 keep your hands off the mat - you need to control your opponent, not the mat. keep your hand(s) off the mat.
3:10 do not accepts sweeps/takedowns - it's not over until it's over. fight hard to get back up if you get knocked down.
3:23 never let people grab your head - the head is one of the best points of control. you're probably letting your head get grabbed all the time.
3:47 prevent inside position - inside position is most importantly the space between your neck and shoulder, and armpit and knee.
4:40 t-rex arms - your elbows should not leave your body. t-rex arms prevent limb isolation, underhooks and head control
5:30 underhooks are almost always a good idea - underhooks are king. especially in nogi. they lead to back takes, sweeps, takedowns, passes & more.
5:50 path of least resistance - the less you strain the more technical you will become. you want to use the minimum effective dose of strength.
6:19 fight the hands when being choked - priority number 1 is to protect your neck. only if your neck is protected, can you use you lower them.
7:02 keep your hips higher to win scrambles - higher hips will ensure you stay on top, and your opponent stays on the bottom.
7:28 keep your butt down or all the way up - the in between is often where you are most susceptible to be swept.
7:52 load your opponents hips onto yours - the further your opponents hips are from your centre line, the heavier they will be.
8:10 use wedges - when something is stuck, you need to pry it out. use wedges to help free whatever is stuck.
8:28 break posture in your guard - you can attack from their broken posture or let them posture up and attack as they do.

This page helped me win two Gold medals and a Silver on the same day. Can’t get better than this. Fundamentals and concepts over specific “moves” is the best way to learn the moves without having to memorize them or drill them a million times. They come with it.

Love your videos! Trying to remember thousands of moves is just overwhelming but getting the core concept down is very manageable and allows for better counter thinking when under pressure. Thank you, keep doing what you are doing!

These videos reinforce and support what I'm learning each night at my academy. This is another A+ video that like the others I'm sure I'll be studying every night. I've been a Patreon member and just increased my support to keep these videos going. Thankyou Jordan for the time and energy you put into these videos.

Man, these concepts are changing my game and giving a purpose to my rolls (focus on winning the grip battle, focus on connecting the elbow to the knee, etc.). I was struggling with motivation until I started watching your vids. And you're so pretty. Cheers.
