Scotty literally read my mind with this one! I have an 09 Pilot I just purchased a few weeks ago and just installed a VCM bypass on it yesterday. It made a huge difference. Honda actually had a class action lawsuit brought against them because the VCM caused premature spark plug fouling which would cause misfires, resulting in such bad vibrations that motor mounts were being damaged.

I just replaced the front VVT valve as it was leaking oil on my wife's 2011 Pilot at 145k. About 30k ago the rear one went and had to have her car towed to shop. After watching this I may buy one of those deactivation switches you talked about.

You may be one of the most useful people on YouTube, great common sense advice!

I love my pilot. It’s 2014 with 130, 000 miles on it. I do all the brakes and fluids. Taught myself from YouTube. Put on the variable timing deactivator just today and my mileage went UP on a short test ride. Is that wrong? Anyway, Scotty, you’re the best. Thanks so much for agreeing on pilots👏👏👏❤️🌟

Scotty I'm so glad you've finally got around to bashing Honda for the timing belt on their new v6! I'm glad my v6 Accord was totaled for more than what I paid for it. Every Honda dealer I called wanted at least $1600 a timing belt job! BUT that engine is BULLETPROOF. Mine had 280k & going strong

Had a 2004 honda accord original timing belt went 275, 000 never broke. The car was totaled but it started right up tried to drive out of the car!!!!

My son has an 04 with 385, 000 miles and had to replace transmission around 250, 000 miles. I have an 04 Honda Element with 218, 000 miles other than VTEC replacement no issues and it has a chain, no rubber.

Nice video. I ordered a VCM bypassing device. Just wanted to tell other owners that have Honda's with similar engines to check the Air Intake Hose as it has cracks due to VCM high temperatures. I changed mine yesterday, the RPMs are solid now, no more flickering and dancing on the dashboard. An easy $20 fix (short term) along with the VCM disabling (long term). 2011 Honda Odyssey with around $130K miles.

This is very true and incredibly important information for the public to have. Thanks, Scotty!

I have an Accord about 200k. I want to get 1, 000, 000 miles. I also have an 07 Odyssey with 165k, with the same engine without the valve deactivation. I love those old Hondas, they run forever. My mom had an '83 Accord with 465k, before it was totaled by a dd. It was running super smooth. I also have a 03 Civic with 115k, but I rarely drive that one, so I want a 1, 000, 000 on that one also. Great value cars.

Installed a VCM de-activator on my '21 Ridgeline with maybe a half (0.5)mpg loss... Highly recommend

My 07 EXL 4wd currently has 152k miles only the radiator is not original, I live in the rust belt . I do my own maintenance and about every single preventive maintenance Mr. Scotty suggest. Including EGR valve, Mass air flow sensor, throttle body, battery terminal cleaning, PCV Valve inspection, I use AT-205 on all the bushings in the suspension, Sta-bil rust protection every winter. Amsoil fluids on the engine, transmission and transfer case. It’s very important to only use either Honda or the Aisin kit for the timing belt job! I’m so happy with my Honda Pilot it has been ultra reliable 0 issues.

I remember asking about honda and the vcm engines and seeing what he would say and i finally got my answer. Thank you for the video.

I can understand how a cylinder deactivation system might cause uneven ring/cylinder wear leading to the engine burning oil, but how can turning it off reverse the damage and stop the engine from burning oil? Please explain in your next video!

Scotty I just bought a 2006 Honda Odyessy 2.4 ltr with about 10000 miles on it... Not a fan of Honda's really but the one I got is in incredible condition. Serviced every 3000 miles and it's soooo tight... Power steering pump is leaking but that's no problem (expensive though) $1000 Australian... But very happy with this car 🚗 ☺️

I just did this Scotty! It went from an oil burner to almost none. That vcm tuner thing works!

Thanks Scotty, I’m in the Florida panhandle. Had our 2007 done recently, about $850. We’re going to keep it till the does fall off!! Well maintained and looks like new. 150k on the clock so she’s def got a lot more from the comments I’m seeing.

I have an '04 Honda pilot and it also has 385, 000+ miles on it. Original drivetrain. That being said, the transmission is starting to act like the liquid pump inside it is starting to go and it does shift hard sometimes. But the engine is still as strong as it has ever been. Really it is in good shape for almost 400k. Also 3/4ths of the miles are highway miles. If the transmission does go it will be worth putting a new transmission in. So I'm ok with that.
