I BOUGHT the BEST truck I could buy for $2500 (And Fixed It)

In this video I bought a super cheap work truck and drove it nearly 4 hours home after it has been sitting for over a year. I fixed almost everything wrong with the truck to make it a reliable working unit for towing and general work stuff. It’s in really bad shape but we end up making it look and function nicely.

I like your negotiating tactics when haggling over the price. You drove 4 hours, looked the truck over and said no not interested. The seller immediately caved in on the price, well done.

I bet that you cannot find a $4200.00 truck that is in the shape of your truck. Very good job young man.

I never understood how people can’t clean up a car before selling. Like just a wash, picking up your trash, vacuuming and a wipedown and boom a car looks a ton better. I guess people don’t like making easy money.

6.0 gas was one of the best engine chevy ever made. As a mechanic ive seen many with 400k miles and still running great

Just a tip. Whenever you drain anything with a fill and drain plug always crack the fill plug first. It would suck to drain something and the fill plug won’t come out. Lol

Hell of a truck you got, I owned a 09 2500 with the vortec lasted 477, 000 miles till I replaced her with my Duramax.

Exhaust manifold bolts that didn’t break off? Gotta be AI! Just kidding. So jealous. Good job replacing them now too. You won’t regret that!

I wish you fixed the codes and the ABS lights within the video then it woulda been the absolute best honestly. This is a good video and its good to see another person young like me doing some real work.

I literally had the opposite happen to me, dude drove 4 hours with his crew, low balled me on my truck pissing and moaning about EVERYTHING offering me a stupid number and I drove back to my house from the police station (10 minutes from my house) and he drove back with... nothing. Blocked his number and on fakebook and still drive my truck to this day. I might sell it again next year but for now, meh, if he wasn't a tool I would have worked with him but some people need to be taught a lesson on ethics.

You might consider changing the O2 sensors. I worked in industry all my life and found that even though they aren't setting a code that with age they switch a lot slower and will affect the gas mileage. I love your videos and look forward to the next one.

Just a tip for diff fluids. ALWAYS crack the fill plug first before the drain plug. Reason being if the fill plug is stuck and you just drained the fluid youre SOL.

Two things:

1. This took me back to when I was 16 and got my first truck and rebuilt that thing (still have it by the way almost 2 decades later).
2. It made me want to do it again, think I will go buy an old F-250.

Back in 2018, I got my hands on a 2004 GMC Sierra, regular cab, ran like a bag of crap. Traded a 49cc pitbike and $700 cash, drove it home. Truck had so many issues, but it lasted over 2 years. It now sits in some guys field, with a blown transmission xD

That body style Chevy was one of the best looking for sure in the past 20 years.

Damn! 2500$ for that truck that's a steal, IMO. I would've done everything you did except for the trans fluid change. In my experience, vehicles with that high mileage and no record of previous maintenance, almost all of the transmissions that I've done fluid changes have crapped out on me within weeks. The new fluid minus the old friction material is too hard on what's left. Hopefully, that's your case with you. Again, what a steal! Great job on everything!

$2500 for a nearly 20 year old 4x4 crew cab work truck with those miles, in this condition (and in this economy) is pretty good. I would jump at that, even a bit over $5k probably. It's a starting point for a build. If you have the tools and skills (or patience to learn them in real-time) you can be all-in for less than double that, if you don't need serious engine or transmission work. I would presume new brakes, tires, suspension and some electrical gremlins from something like this... Nicely done. Hope I can find one about this range. Closest thing to me is a single cab 2008 4x4 with 215k miles for $8k
