Alternator Replacement on Honda prelude (5th gen)

Hey! Welcome back to the channel! I’ve been gone for a long long time and I decided to finally post a video on replacing the alternator. I couldn't figure it out what was wrong with it until I started thinking about what happened. Usually when a car has a failing alternator, accessories and gauges start to fail which is what happened to me. My lights weren't working and the engine was starting to stall. I wish I would've figured it out sooner before buying a pully but at least its on the road again. This isn’t a tutorial, I try to explain what I did to make the replacement happen and it was my first time messing with it. If you're looking for an alternator, Autozone isn't a bad place to start (better warranty than OEM) I hope you all enjoy this video, more are on the way!

Sounds like you had a great time 😆 🤣. My 2001 just took out my tensioner hardware and it's somewhere on the freeway. The tensioner bolt snapped off. Only a few parts survived the drive home. Now I need to source out the hardware. Finding them isn't easy. Only used parts available. I might just weld a part up and make it work.

Just saw this video after I replaced my '99 alternator this afternoon. As opposed to your experience getting the alternator on, I had trouble pulling the old one off from the top. I didn't even check the conditions of my 2 belts, I just kinda eyeball the tension on both. Hope it won't throw strange codes and let me pass smog.

if you want it to continue to run service the timing belt water pump and convert to a manual timing belt tensioner also have the valve adjustment done these are interference engines so service intervals are extremely important only 58k bb6 preludes were produced between 1997 and 2001 so take care of it. mines a red 1997 sh with 265k on it the engine and trans are on a fresh rebuild (previous owners were scumbags who lied about service history) needless to say this car is recieving a ground up restoration happy luding my guy save the ludes!

How come I have the alternator loose and I still can’t put the belt over it it needs like a inch more so I can put the belt on

Hey I know this is an old video but when I put the tension part where you thread the bolt thru isn’t letting me spin it in position it gets stuck on the alternator holes
