Another way to check your alternator is hook up your multi meter to your battery and start engine and if it's charging the voltage will climb to around 14-15 volts if it's charging correctly if it decreases it's bad

Nice video! For some reason my alternator stopped charging my battery but my battery is new and tested my alternator at autozone and it was good. However, I’ve checked my battery to alternator power wire and come to realize it reads no volts could this be the reason why it’s not charging? Thanks.

How do you check the 110v alternating current before it hits the regulator and trio diode

why would an alternator need voltage to work ? it actually produce the voltage . you start the engine with the battery voltage, which make the serpentine belt turn and making the alternator pulley rotate and send voltage TO the battery and all components of the car. im pretty sure the 12v cable you test is the cable that GIVE the voltage to the battery. if alternator not running you basically just get the battery voltage through that cable. battery must be between 12.2v (60%)and 12.6v(100%). when engine is running you get the alternator voltage which must be over 13v but around 14v is what you looking for. the test you shown could have been done on the battery itself and would get the same value.

If you just run this test at the battery posts i think you accomplish the same thing plus youll determine whether the charge is making it to the battery itself. Test with car on, then test with car off. I wouldnt test the alternator posts unless i didnt get the 14.5 at the battery.

So if it is only reading 13.2 then its bad? Unfortunately my headlights are flickering and so i started checking the alt and my car runs fine but healights flicker. Not bad flickering but flickering. Also the car sometimes doesnt start right away And everytime that occurs the head unit is booting up, telling me somehow electric was completely disconnected. My battery is good and very strong....weird stuff.

You’re checking to connect to ensure CURRENT can flow from the alternator TO the battery and the rest of the vehicle

I get 0 volts when engines off, but when it’s on and running I get the 13-14v of current? Time for a new alternator?

You need to redo that video because it doesn't show the alternator information
