Today is another how to on the prelude.
if you have symptoms of dimmed lights and batteries that keep dying YOU might have a bad alternator. Most auto parts stores do free checks....Another tip: try getting your OEM alternator remanufactured locally might be cheaper and last longer.

sorry about the ugly Valve cover the last paint job i did is starting to come off..which means a new video :D

Note to anyone who watches this! Before you buy your new alternator make sure the new one has OBD2 plug and not OBD1.

Thanks! Used this to replace the alternator on my 98. The stupid heat shield doesn't need to be completely taken off, you can just take off the first bolt and pull it aside to those who still have it on. Honda engineers of the 5th gen did not make this process easy...

You don't have to disconnect the PS line. Just unbolt the PS pump and pull it up and set it aside. The 12mm nut holds the alt. at the bottom and also holds the tensioner with the 10mm hex bolt at the top. To tension it just screw it in or pry up on the alt. until desired tension is achieved then tighten the 12mm and 14mm.

The bolt underneath the pulley you can see it underneath the left side driver wheel if you remove wheel and you can tightened it that way and see reach under the alternator.

How the heck did you get the orange clip for the abs off the metal bracket I’m stuck ?

Thanks for that I had trouble figuring out that alternator pulley tensioner. I knew there was a bolt underneath there somewhere I just couldn't find it. :)

So how did you get the tension back on the alternator pulley when putting the alternator back on?

Hey man hope you reply asap, but my serpentine belt snapped today and I'm wondering if I could do the same process you did in the beginning to loosen the pulley. Great video btw

Hey I had question I got the new alternator on but now the adjustment bolt tensioner won't screw into the hole and I sure I had it same way before I removed it now it won't go in, the whole not stripped because I tried smaller bolt and it went in

Why is your timing belt cover missing? Did that need to be removed to pull the steering pump?

This was a horrible design by Honda. Busy working on my 98. There's very little space with the power steering and high pressure hoses all squished in the area near the alternator. The top bolt is a bitch to align for the thread to go in.

My brother has a prelude with the body kit that comes with some (forgot the name), and when he first got it the Alternator needed changing then the alternator belt kept on squealing and the 4ws has broke now 😂
