As a historian, I find it ironic that France finally has a bigger naval fleet than Britain lol

My partner is french and since I am german we often talk about our militaries, especially since hes also a reserve soldier. And I gotta admit...The french are military wise much stronger and established than its neighbours. It's respectable how the french have decided that they dont need america for safety and instead continued to have no US military base for over 50 years. Impressively brave considering they were one of the only countries that didn't allow US military bases as a western country, especially at the Cold War times.

France is one of the 2 or 3 western nations that constantly rotate combat units in conflict zones. One may argue that they are only engaged in asymmetric warfare but they haven’t anything else to get their teeth into for the moment. The result is that the French have the only army of the EU that can project battle hardened regiments at any time and stating that most of the other EU citizens with combat experience (Special Forces apart) are in the French Foreign Legion may be harsh, even hurtful, but it is certainly not far from the truth. The other notable result is that the French society is far more inclined than its neighbors to accept the fact that war kills. It does not make it less painful, but it considerably helps if you are preparing the country for high intensity warfare. By comparison, the European Nordic nations are far from that level of acceptance and the Germans are light years away.

historicly france has had europes best army it was only in the last century it started lagging behind. now its regaining its top place in europe, and honestly a united european army with france in the lead the eu would become a true superpower.

Budget & numbers don't mean much.
France is totally independent in certain areas (nuclear weapons, radars, electronics, submarines, aircrafts) because they decided to have their own domestic industry. As a consequence, their euros allow them to buy more than if they were to buy abroad.
The UK's nuclear deterrent (Trident missiles) is made in the US... So if the US decides to give up on the UK, they are fked.

Well I did hear that France is one of the more dangerous countries out their. And this video helped explain a little bit of why.

Next, do Poland. Poland has historically been the bulwark that has protected Europe from the East and I hear they are massively gearing up.

Macron's pandering to China is embarrassing....

Napoleon would be disappointed

And the scary thing is, we might actually really need to gear up for this disastrous event. Me, from Europe (Netherlands) start to worry more about this more and more since the war in Ukraine started. My county has no tanks to speak of anymore, we rent them from Germany. We could not hold out a day on our own if an invasion is imminent.

With the gaze on the future, I am affraid this needs to change, how sad that might be.

Here is the thing about us French: We understood that we don't need a ton of US support, just enough for us to stay always on our feet. Everything else is local: Dassault Rafale is one of the best multi role Naval aircraft, the Charles de Gaulle even tho old is still very capable in terms of power projection, all our subs are nuclear with the suffren class being the first in the line of modern subs, infantry equipment is produced in France or bought from Belgium and other EU countries, and finally the spec ops are top notch and I dare say they would be able to give US spec ops a run for their money.
On the at note, Vive la France et vive la république.

if france is an absolute unit in WW3, it's because they took french stereotypes way too seriously

I hope WW3 never happens, just fought a war in my own country which is the "Marawi war" I was one of the soldiers that fought in that conflict.
I don't want another conflict especially on a world wide scale at that. Seen my friends/comrades die i don't want another war to happen.😢

And one very important fact. France is the only country in Europe that want to have a full autonomy with the US.

We built our own missiles (the MBDA company), our own nuclear program, our own hélicoptères and aircraft, our own tanks and military véhicules (nexter, ...), Our own battleships (naval group), own fighter jet (Dassault), our own nuclear submarines, and so on.

Rare are the countries with such an (nearly) totally independant military industry.
