Two types of call reluctance. One form comes more from not knowing what to do, how to do it and when to do it. By pushing through the fear, role playing, learning what you need to say and the value you bring to the table, you can -- and will -- overcome call reluctance in a fairly reasonable amount of time. The other form of call reluctance is embedded much more deeply inside of us and requires that we 1) identify the source of the call reluctance (which is usually a traumatic event that triggered your flight or fight response at a young age) and then 2) work on rewiring your brain and the meaning you give that event so it doesn't trigger the flight response when it comes time to prospect.

4 years late to the the party, but here's my biggest excuse for not getting on the phone to cold call - I'm scared of sounding inexperienced to the other person, and that they'll think I'm not smart enough to do the deal I'm bringing to them and won't do business with me, or will mock me for not knowing more.

When you think about it, if someone cold called me and sounded inexperienced, I would never mock them or antagonize them for it, I would just keep that to myself and probably just end the call. Most people will do the same thing, so even if I do sound inexperienced (which I'm not, just paranoid about getting questions I can't answer) the worst that will happen is they hang up. If someone wants to yell and cuss at me, I like what you said, might as well give it back because they're presuming I'm calling them for the wrong reasons and that's an insult, no deal would happen anyway and giving them a taste of their own medicine will probably do them a favor anyhow.

Once I get on the phone I am okay. It's that first step - ask myself what is my payoff by not getting on the phone without thinking about it. Not getting on the phone and making appointments - bills don't get paid.

I started calling SOI yesterday. I plan to continue today and finish tomorrow with SOI calls. In today’s world I’m not used to calling friends and family. We text and like each others posts on FB. I’ve really been enjoying the calls and actually catching up with people while getting their emails and talking Real Estate. Everyone is so supportive. I consider this a warm up to cold calls which I’ll start on Monday. Blocking time to do it is key!
