Supreme Court judge ruled against this plan and permanently enjoined the city from implementing this plan. The mayor is appealing to the next highest court.

How does a City Mayor have authority over A Federal program? Even a flunky lawyer should be able to beat that.

I am ready to vote out Eric Adams, he has been a disaster for NYC.

Teachers union of n.y.c. screwed the retired teachers with this advantage plan.

Thank you for bringing this disaster to the forefront. All the 250, 000 retirees that are under the Municipal Labor Corp. are affected, not only the teachers. But the United Federation of Traitors and DC 37 were most influential in approval of this deal. Follow the money that was raided from the Stabilization Fund to support our health plans.

Christopher Westfall talked about this months ago. Absolutely shameful

Keep in mind, NYC retirees live all over the country, some in areas where there are no Aetna in-network doctors at all.

12/12/23 What is the latest on this: The City lost and made an appeal? What is Adams doing?

NYC teachers ‘ union didn’t throw the retirees under the bus, the leadership - Michael Mulgrew to be exact. Adams, Mulgrew and the MLC did this without our input. The government is also involved by supporting Medicare Advantage because the politicians are lining their pockets with money from for-profit insurance companies. Big corporations are doing the same thing - IBM, for one. It is directly undermining traditional medical. Ugh. You get what you pay for.

Thank you for covering this. My hubby is a retired federal employee. He kept his HMO plan, fortunately NYC has excellent medical centers that accept Emblem Health. Though, we are not crazy about his primary, at least he allows him to see all the specialists.
If I had understood medical insurance then when he retired I wouldn’t let him get anything other than traditional Medicare + Medigap.

The ambulance chases are lining up already and trying to make a buck on the back of the retirees on top of it be patient the clock has not run out yet.

I read that the maximum out of pocket for the NYC plan is $1500 per year not the figure you quoted.

I called them and the city, the cops will still have medication, dental, and eye by the union as we have now.??

When working for any organization, assume their bottom line will come before yours and plan accordingly. Even promises for future benefits will be on the chopping block.

I am retired, NYPD, all the retired guys I talk to have no clue what’s coming they think it’s going to be the same old insurance. They are so clueless. They didn’t realize they got screwed, I called the union. They said they had nothing to do with it when they signed off on it, they were all in on it. The unions completely screwed us. If you have medical problems like me, you will have to opt out and pay for secondary insurance like this man said you might be stuck with this crap and that’s what it is. They are giving you nothing they are only taking.

The unions totally sold us out. And this is just the start of what to come.

Is this going to also happen to people who have already been retired for years?

Actually it was the teachers union that proposed the switch. No way the city could do this without union support. The UFT teachers union owes the city over 1 billion dollars it borrowed from a health fund to pay for raises. The agreement stipulated that the union must find 600 million p/year in healthcare savings hence the attempt to switch retirees into MA or be forced to pay back the billion+.
