She shouldn't have mentioned that she was using it for work. Just say you're driving to an appointment or something. That's why I'm always brief when talking to insurance or talking about any legal matters. Don't say more than you have to.

Get the additional insurance people. It's not worth it to have an accident and not be covered. Also if you're an "independent contract" that means you're a business. Think like a business (in the US). You'll likely want an accountant if it's your only form of income. Being self employed in the US is NOT cheap. Frankly, unless you can afford your income is so high that you can afford private health insurance? It's likely not worth it. These "gig" businesses that depend on independent contractors are just greedy and capitalize on people's ignorance about what it actually means to be an independent contract.

I've known this for two decades now. This is nothing new. If you work as a delivery driver. Never tell the insurance company you do or they will deny your claim. Unless you have business insurance.

Why did you just say you got into a accident and call it a day! Never tell them your driving for a company or ride share

This happened to me while driving for UberEats in 2017. It was just my second day out driving and was in a car 🚘 accident. My insurance denied 🙅🏾‍♀️ the claim, but Uber’s insurance picked it up.

What the hell is wrong with people? "Don't tell them!" "Keep quiet about it!" All these people don't understand the repercussions if the insurance company finds out another way! The lawsuits and legal fees, and not only yours, you could end up paying the insurance company's lawyers too! Not to mention the exorbitant rates IF you can find anyone that will insure you after lying to your insurance company!!
