Modifying Lathe Tooling to fit my small Lathe

Together with the quick change tool post my lathe could just use very small tooling. So I thought of a way to stay with the quick change tool post an still use bigger tooling, especially insert tooling.

I have one step smaller AA sized holder. It just looks too small for the lathe but apparently it is better fit and it should just fit without modifying anything...

I would have just removed the compound slide and added a bushing for the loss of measurement

Hi, nice videos and congrats to new lathe!
But your turning tool it's too big on Weiler 220. Correct size of tool is 16x16 or 12x12.
I have the same lathe, and i have a similary issue too. This problem solutions was made a new top slide form cast iron. I made top slide with a cut for toolhoder. Toolhoder can be in lower position then original top slide. I use all tool 16x16 without problem.

There's 2 things you can a smaller shank tool or mill the bottom of the tool down just behind the front part not all the way.
A third way would be the end of the tool off behind the end part and weld it back onto the shank but a bit lower.
They do make smaller shank insert tools you know.

Two things;
1) Carbide insert tooling has high minimum speeds and depth of cut requirments, that translate into high power and rigidity requirment, that your lathe may not be able to fulfil
but...
2) if you insist, you could address the height issue AND improve rigidity by follow Robrenz and/or Stefan Gotteswinter by making a solid toolpost.
If you make the solid toolpost thinner than the existing compound you may do well.

Why not just grind down the section of the tool that fits in the clamp? Also, you own a lathe, which means you can do milling operations. Put the cutter in the chuck, and use quick connect to move the piece through the cutter
