Chinese Tool Holders for My Mini Lathe Didn't Fit My JINWEN Quick Change Tool Post

I believe these tool holders were made by the same company that made my JINWEN quick chance tool posts. But they were just a bit small for the QCTP dovetails. I had to do a little tweaking to get them to fit. Thanks Dave M for recommending a dovetail cutter.

Jim I had a similar issue one thing i found was that to supplied tool holder were a very sloppy fit . the new ones just needed a little filing to get them to fit and they were much closer fit . the originals are now in my scrap bin

Good video Jim. Glad you were able to get them to work!

I thought the dovetail on the "aftermarket" tool holder I ordered was too tight or tapered because it wouldn't go but halfway down on the corresponding dovetail. Then I realized it was hanging on the piston. I tried it on the other dovetal ad it worked but I still couldn't get the first piston in far enough to let the holder slide to the bottom of it's dovetail. Finally, I had my duh... moment, chucked the piston in the lathe and shortened it a bit. Now it fits just fine.

Thank you for posting this video. I have the same issue and will attempt to follow your advice. One question...
The tool holders I need to modify seem extremely hard. I cannot scratch them with the edge of a file. Were your tool holders made of soft or hardened steel?

There's nothing worse than waiting for something to show in the mail for a week and it not fit! Maybe those other holders were for a wedge style tool post vs piston.

Shame about the fit but at least the solution was not difficult.

I'm shocked at the angles you're measuring. They don't make a 62 or 56 degree etc cutter. 60 and 45 that's it unless you look into wood router bits. Scratching my head on this one other than the black coating did something..

You took nothing more than a flyer with the tool holders, of course they wont fit.
To get the correct ones you have to figure what the Jingy Jangy tool posts corresponds to ie 100 Series - 100, 150 or 200. If holders dont say what they are, walk away, 10, 12, 15" means nothing either
