It's weird how the hurricane was worse the farther inland it got. Hurricanes usually dissipate over land.

I used to live there. This has happening before several times. When you live on the coastline this is going to happen. And I don't want to hear the climate change bull crap.

Not trying to in ANYWAY downplay the damage and lose of life, but this is what hurricanes do. Hugo, Katrina, even some of the "smaller ones" if they sit and spin that dump feet of water on places and create tons of damage. Helena sat in the gulf and sent wave after wave of rain into FL, GA, SC, NC, and TN. The infrastructure in this country needs an overhaul in the worst way imaginable, but we're sending billions each day all over the world while our own people struggle immeasurably.

Honestly? It's somehow simultaneously not as bad and worse than I expected.

why do they build so close to the sea?

In the 1970s professional engineers warned that these areas should not be developed. All construction needs to be hardened for extreme weather events.

This footage doesn’t show how bad it really is. The police still have all the exits in and out blocked off. There’s no gasoline in the whole town now. Never seen devastation this bad before

It’s amazing, nothing happened in Miami and Fort Laurerdale, and it hurts to see the horrendous damage in other States and other cities, this is very sad .

doesn't appear to be much damage, with the exception of all the sand in the streets but I would imagine that is as common as snow is in Wisconsin

This is what happens when you build in coastal areas. Wealthy investors will just rebuild and charge ridiculous amounts to live there.
