I love how they use grappling (the attack no longer a skill check) as the example.

I hope they have tiered holy order features - if I don't want heavy armor and martial weapons at level 2, I probably don't want it at level 9. But if I do want heavy armor and martial weapons, I would love to get extra attack or something similar to boost my weapon damage at level 9. For the other orders, I could see myself wanting to double down and pick the same order a second time (2 channel divinity return on short rest or more skills benefiting from my wisdom). I hope they add a lot more to this to make it valuable. A level 9 feature that gives you the benefits of a level 2 feature does not excite me at all.

What about the proficiency bonus uses of spark divinity leading to more 1 level dips into cleric? With a single dip into cleric, you get medium armor and shields, spellcasting AND a channel divinity power that scales with your proficiency bonus, which means you turn undead just as well as a high level cleric with just one level. And the healing scales as well. Proficiency bonus doesn't work with first level abilities.

The life cleric has the same healing abilities in the playtest with a couple tweaks. Channel Divinity can heal, turn undead and do damage. WotC said in a video that there will be 4 subclasses for each of the 12 classes. Whicheans the Cmeric will havr fewer. The question is, what do you think the other 3 Cleric subclasses will be?

So, in 5e we have the artificer, fighter, paladin, ranger, sorcerer, and warlock that have significant customization options outside of their subclass options. OneD&D seems to be adding cleric to that list, but I'd be ok with every class having something. Based on what we've seen so far, the warlock looks like it will still have the most customization, which I think should stay that way; but giving a little more to barbarians, bards, druids, monks, rogues, and wizards would be nice.

Divine Spark is based on your overall level, not class level, and scales with proficiency. Makes it way too tempting for multiclassing.

Holy order really feels like they pulled the choices from the Pathfinder holy doctrine. You choose martial weapons and heavy armor (warpriest) or cantrips and spells (Cloistered) then skilled feels like they took the CHA tie of Pathfinder cleric a tried to make it work as a separate choice. Then they give you the second choice to make your full Pathfinder Cleric.

Prestige subclass technically. That could be really interesting.

This certainly makes multiclassing a more serious consideration, investment.

Not mad about the idea that the cleric spends his early years studying the scripts and discovering their callings path to decide sun class.

I heard someone on YouTube talk about CODING. They are designing a VTT and the less variables you have in your parameters, the easier it is to code them in a computer. And WOTC is controlled by Microsoft people now, so lining up the class features makes sense when you think about that.

For clerics to get a subclass at level 3 might be reasonable, but for the other two first level classes it makes no sense. If I'm a sorcerer, born with my power, I should know it already at level 0 to be honest, why would I train sorcery if I don't even know if I have it? And if I make a pact with an otherworldy being I expect to get my powers now, not only at level 3.

Clerics have been consistently overpowered in every edition of D&D. From AD&D to 5e. I'd be shocked if the tradition doesn't continue.

I have not seen anything so far that would cause me to spend USD on D&D 1.
