Watch This Before You Play Life Domain Cleric | Dungeons & Dragons Players Handbook Subclass

The Life Domain Cleric from Dungeons & Dragons is one of the most essential and iconic subclasses in the game and has had a spot in any party since the 1970s. For fifth edition it is still one of the most used subclasses in the players handbook.

The Life domain focuses on the vibrant positive energy — one of the fundamental forces of the universe — that sustains all life. The gods of life promote vitality and health through healing the sick and wounded, caring for those in need, and driving away the forces of death and undeath.

Firbolg and hill dwarf do have wisdom bonus!

I've played a few clerics in 5e, but my favourite was Nathaniel St. Barnabas, a human Life Domain Cleric I got up to 16th level. I built him with the Resilient (Constitution) and War Caster feats, and often had Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon active during combat. I'd put myself right in the middle of combat, take the Dodge action if I wasn't healing someone, and let the enemy grind themselves to death against me. We had a few big encounters towards the end where I cast Regeneration on the barbarian, healing him 10HP a round, and Warding Bond on the Paladin to grant her Resistance... which nearly took me out a few times! 😆
All in all I've found a Life Domain Cleric to be really satisfying to play, especially if you're prepared to help the other members of your party to really shine.

Thanks! This was extremely valuable information for learning to play my Cleric properly. This is my second proper character since starting D&D and finding this video on the Life Domain subclass is going to be super useful. I want to become an excellent player and then a better DM. Thanks so much!

I'm about to play a life cleric! I wanted to play a character that had control, support and healing on lockdown so the rest of the party could kick ass!

Another good race for life cleric would be the goblin since they naturally can disengage as a bonus action while fury of the small could help end a battle quicker if all else fails

Hill Dwarf can get a +1 to wisdom. Variant Human is good too as you get a +1 on your choice of two characteristics as well as a choice of feat (War Caster).

Bless is a great spell at every level.

I did a life Claire with a small 2 level dip into fighter. I'm telling you, having access to melee weapons, second wind, and action surge makes for a pretty BA build. Add to that the Defence fighting style and a tanky build gets additional tanky with and AC of 19.

A class with healing options can help quite a bit when a table is experimenting with new styles of play.

The CR system is balances encounters based around the party rolling initiative with full health, but not necessarily any other resources.

A cleric or other healing features potentially let the DM play a little fast and loose in spacing out short rests. It needs to be made clear to the player though that “time is of the essence” and they may need to use their spell slots or other resources like potions to heal.

I like to combo Healer Feat with bonus action spells.

Thank you so much, started playing a campaign at level eight and this video has really helped me to catch up on what I’ve been forgetting and some better things to replace. 🥰

I'm a little confused about the recommendation for the Resilient (Wisdom) Feat, since Cleric already has a natural proficiency in Wisdom at level one. And you could just take an ability score increase instead.

Love your videos!

Rather enjoyed your video, thank you very much! It came too late for my Rangrim, but he's a disgusting hill dwarf frontline hammer and shield tank who can kill stuff whilst using the shield to protect allies and still do ridiculous heals, at level 8 life cleric/level 1 fighter. He's got more use out of Bless, Guiding Bolt and Spiritual Weapon than any healing spells so far. :)

I'm playing a Spore Druid with a 1 level dip in Life Cleric (and Monk); to me, Necromancy is power over life and death, not just the latter as dnd seems to imply
The amount of hp a Healing Spirit and Aura of Vitality can dish out in combat is excellent
And then there's Goodberry... which I agreed with the dm would be constrained by having to find a specific type of rare plant beforehand to use it.

Custom lineage chef feat. Get healer next. I forget what clerics would most benefit from boosting their wisdom modifier with... if resilient allows Wisdom then that should be way better though.

My build
Winged Fierna Tiefling
Life cleric 2
Celestial warlock chain pact 5
Life Cleric the rest
Pick up magic initiate druid and grab good berry and shillelagh
Eldritch invocations gift of the old ones, devil's sight and agonizing blast
Your familiar imp can cast the touch heals for you while you fly around sniping with eldritch blast

No race in the PHB has a natural boost to wisdom? The Hill dwarf, Wood elf, Half-elf and Human all get or can get a +1 bonus to Wisdom!

Also, 1d6+14 extra healing per short rest PER PARTY MEMBER is nothing to sneeze at at lvl 10. A party with a Life cleric will still certainly notice the difference of having someone with the Healer feat!

I like clerics but I would never play one, I prefer either being stealthy or charismatic
